Featured Listing – 2009 Aprilia RS125 Track Bike

Mike 0

Continuing in our recent form of fantastic two strokes comes today’s Featured Listing – a 2009 Aprilia RS125 Track Day bike. If you are a RSBFS reader and have seen comments in recent smoker posts you will know that there is nothing sharper for the track than a lightweight, focused two stroke. And when the bike in question comes from Aprilia – a company renowned for their small-bore racing exploits – and has been massaged and reworked to optimize track performance, you know you are looking at a bike that can punch well above its weight class.

Featured Listing – 2009 Aprilia RS125 Track Bike

The heart of the RS125 is a single cylinder, liquid cooled, reed valve inducted two stroke breathing through a single Dell’Orto carb. Power is fed through a wet clutch to a close-ratio 6-speed final drive. On the chassis side, the main attraction is a beautifully crafted box section aluminum alloy frame, to which is mounted very sophisticated suspension components. Out back there is an asymmetrical alloy swingarm with rising rate linkage, curved and braced to allow the exhaust to mount up high and tight for maximum cornering clearance. Up front the forks are oversize and upside down, mounted to a strongly braced frame stem. There is only a single disk up front, but it is a 320mm unit squeezed by a four piston, radial mount caliper; more than enough to aggressively stop the 280 pound (dry) package.

From the seller:
Up for sale is a rare TRACK ONLY Italian performance 2 Stroke moto. This bike is one of one hundred and fifty imported in to the U.S. in 2009. It is #17 out of 150. Purchased brand new from a dealer in CO in 2021 with 1 Km.

Bike has been my dedicated track bike for the 2022 season. It has been cleaned and serviced after each track day. Currently has 979km which is equivalent to about 607 Miles. Autolube feature so no pre-mixing. I run AMSOIL Interceptor as the oil and only 110 Octane Race gas. Bike is always garage kept and on a battery tender. Bike comes with a few extras.

Price: $8,000

These dedicated track bikes from Aprilia are very rare in the United States, but offer the most pure antidote to your track day addiction short of a full-on GP bike. With a snappy and zingy two stroke, light weight, and excellent brakes and suspension the RS125 when ridden properly can obliterate more street-oriented bikes many times its size. And while the Aprilia is a great mount for riders of any level, it teaches smoothness and momentum conservation much more so than a bigger bike. With automatic oiling and electric start it takes no more work than a bigger four stroke, without those pesky oil change and valve adjustment intervals. That is all win!

RSBFS fan Mikkel is offering this bike at $8,000. Located in California, the bike comes with some key additions (frame sliders, levers and guards) as well as desirable paddock accessories in the form of tire warmers and stands. The bike also comes with the original bodywork to maintain authenticity. Interested readers should reach out to Mikkel here, or give him a call. A bike like this does not come our way often, and if you are committed to improving your riding by attending track days there could be no better way to do so. Good Luck!!!

Track Day Tuesday: 2022 Aprilia RS250SP2 racer

Mike 1

Here is a quickie for your Track Day Tuesday morning. Up for grabs is a pretty special machine, an Aprilia RS250 SP2 race bike. Aprilia offered two different specifications of this model, which included the lower spec SP and the high specification SP2. Meant to emulate a Moto3 machine – but with greater reliability and a less-stressed engine – the modern RS250 offers 30+ HP from a single cylinder, four-valve, liquid cooled four stroke. Weighing in at a scant 230 pounds, the RS250SP and SP2 feature top-rated components such as Marchesini forged aluminium wheels, Brembo brakes, Ohlins rear shock and SC-Project exhaust. These bikes are used in Europe as a single-class, one make event for younger riders, such as the CIV Junior class promoting regional riders, as well as over on the US side of the pond with the North America Talent Cup. If you can fit on it, you are looking at one of the sharpest motorcycles your track day experience money can buy. Located in Canada (details are here), there is only a single picture of this weapon; but boy-oh-boy does that look like fun!

Track Day Tuesday – 2006 KTM RC125GP

Mike 1

Track day bikes come in all shapes and sizes. Most are converted street bikes – some more elegantly converted than others – but occasionally we strike gold in the form of actual, professional grade racing hardware. And today’s find is just that. Designed by KTM as a GP race bike battling in the 125cc class, the RC125GP saw extensive use in the one-make Rookies Cup series. This was the feeder series to the 125cc class under the GP banner, with the goal of building up riders and providing a ladder to progress through the GP ranks. There was even a US-based Rookies Cup run under the AMA banner, with identical machines by KTM. Today, the Rookies Cup is contested on Moto3-spec machinery, but up until 2013 these sharp 125cc two strokes were the order of the day. These come up every so rarely, and today’s 2006 RC125GP is claimed to be a zero hour, zero mile, zero lap US Rookies Cup timepiece.

2006 KTM RC125GP for sale on eBay

From the seller:
2006 KTM RC125GP Red Bull Rookies Cup. Factory GP bike. Very limited! New they cost 42,000 EURO. This bike has Zero miles, Never raced and I believe very started. Perfect collectors bike!

For the uninitiated, it is easy to write off this bike as a simple starter bike or scooter with nifty paint work. But with nearly 40 HP up at 13,000 RPM and above, and an overall (dry) package weight that is lighter than most of us even before we don helmet and leathers (figure in the 160-ish range), the RC125GP is a serious bit of kit. With Ohlins suspension, big brakes and super sticky racing slicks the RC125 can go toe to toe mid-corner with any bike on the planet. It’s all about conservation of motion; smooth is fast. If you enjoy the problem solving you find on any given day at the track, the RC125GP forces you to up your problem solving game in order to maximize forward progress.

Here is a brief video of the US Rookies cup participating at Laguna Seca. This is NOT from this particular bike – I just found it on YouTube – but even the short clip shows how competitive this class was on one of the nation’s most iconic race tracks.

With the advent of four-stroke technology into GP racing and the lack of available 2-stroke street bikes, the ancient duo-cycle engine was relegated to weed whackers and leaf blowers. Values for surviving two strokes began to rise with rapidity, and unobtanium examples of factory race bikes climbed faster than the tach as the engine hits the pipe. This particular example is as clean as they get, devoid of any crash damage or abuse thanks to being a zero time specimen. Pricing is in line with condition, with the seller requesting $38,000 OBO. Check out all of the details here, and Good Luck!!

The Main Course: 2000 Bimota V-Due Trofeo Corsa

Mike 3

With deference to a certain US holiday fast approaching, the Bimota V-Due was deemed by many as a major turkey. The only Bimota to feature in-house design, frame AND engine, the V-Due was plagued by fueling, sealing, oiling and other terminal issues. While a failure in the commercial marketplace, the 500cc v-twin two stroke was a brilliant attempt and the company went through some efforts to make it right. Touted as a race bike from the start, Bimota (under revised management) set forth to correct the shortcoming and create a V-Due one-make race series. It was here that the Racing Trophy models – Trofeo Corsa – were created. With carbs instead of the troublesome fuel injection, new engine management mappings, revised crankshafts with different bearings, new seals and more, the Trophy bikes are very rare versions of what is already considered a unicorn bike.

More from the seller:

Maybe worldwide the only one in brand new condition with 0 kilometers/ 0 miles.
The bike has been perfectly preserved in the past and for the future.
Perfect for every collector who owns already the normal Bimota V-Due version.

While most avid RSBFS readers will know about the V-Due and even the “corrected” models known as Evoluzion bikes, the Trophy / Trofeo Corsa might be a new one. And that is understandable given the very low numbers produced of this race track-only bike. That makes today’s find a perfect inclusion for the RSBFS Track Day Tuesday run, celebrating not only an amazing offshoot of an amazing motorcycle, but one in zero miles new condition as well!! Offered out of Germany as part of a collection, you can check out all of the details here (and there are a LOT of details from the seller that we could not include). Could you imagine hearing this one run in anger? Drool over the beautiful photography but start counting those pennies – this one will set you back just shy of $70k USD. Good Luck!!

Orange Bang – 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R Track Day Bike

Mike 3

For your RSBFS Track Day Tuesday fun, how about this bright orange Triumph 675R for some high-zoot apex strafing? The mainstay powertrain of choice in Moto 2 GP racing, there really should be no concern about the track worthiness of the unique Triumph triple. And the rest of the package looks pretty well sorted and clean – from the high-end components that come standard on the 675R, right down to the aftermarket race bodywork, the safety wiring and frame sliders. Looks like this one is ready to go!

2012 Triumph Daytona 675R Track Day Bike for sale on eBay

From the seller:
2012 Triumph Daytona 675R
Designed to compete in the Supersport World Championship, the Daytona 675 comes dripping with racetrack technology straight out of the crate. With a lightweight and narrow chassis, fully-adjustable front and rear suspension the Daytona 675 is composed on all surfaces, while top of the range brakes deliver eye popping stopping power.

The cycle parts are all of the highest level. Öhlins 43mm NIX30 forks and TTX36 rear shock come are developed from the white-hot heat of MotoGP competition, while the Brembo four-piston radial monoblock calipers offer mindblowing levels of stopping power and feel. The comprehensive instrumentation includes a programmable gear change indicator, gear indicator and built in lap timer as standard, while a host of performance orientated accessories include a plug and play quickshifter, performance exhausts and even a full factory race kit.

Less likely to hurt you when compared to an R1 or similar liter bike on the race track, the 675R is by no means a slouch. With 120+ HP on tap, and the stocker coming in at under 370 pounds (dry), this track weapon will slide under that weight between bodywork and lighting delete alone. And with Ohlins suspenders and sublime Brembo radial mount monoblocks you are looking at something that can hang with much larger bikes – with a lot less effort. That makes for a more enjoyable track day overall, especially if your local track is more twisty than long straights. If you have not considered riding on a track day, you really should; it will make you a better street rider, AND is a ton of fun. Once you do you will be hooked. This is the point where a dedicated track day bike starts to make more sense. You can check out all of the details here, and Good Luck!!

Featured Listing – 2004 Honda RVT-1000R RC51

Donn 0

Update 11.21.2016: This RC51 is still available and the owner has dropped the price to $10k. You can find the current listing on Orlando Craigslist. -dc

20160924-2004-honda-rvt-1000r-rc51-right

Honda developed the 1000cc v-twin RVT ( VTR in Europe ) -1000R RC51 in response to Ducati’s domination of the first decade of WSBK.  The model brought Honda championships under Colin Edwards and our own Kentucky Kid, who won the AMA Superbike Championship in 2002.  This 2004 Nicky Hayden commemorative RC51 is a later model with factory and owner improvements.

20160924-2004-honda-rvt-1000r-rc51-right-rear

Honda updated the RC51 to SP2 specs in 2003, and shaved a few pounds while strengthening the swingarm and tightening up the steering angle.  Power increased to 136hp with the help of whopping 62mm throttle body injectors.  The massive twin-spar alloy frame was brushed for the model update, and received premium 43mm forks, fully adjustable as was the Pro-Link monoshock.  Brakes were 4-piston front calipers over 320mm rotors, with a 220mm disk at the rear.  Weight was under control if not super light, but 77 ft.-lbs. torque helped keep things moving.

Showing only 6,375 miles, this RC51 has had extensive performance improvements, but looks uninjured.  Sato, Marzocchi, and Penske parts speak to exhaust and suspension tuning.  Flying Nicky’s race number and helmet logo, the fairings look great.  The owner states in the eBay auction:

BIKE IS MINT AS SEEN IN PICTURES, The only flaws on motorcycle are left exhaust can has two tiny dings, left Sato peg on edge has small grind mark, exhaust and rear sets were bought used, other than these two listed flaws bike is mechanically and physically perfect, condition 9.9 out of 10, See pictures for details, always garage kept in climate control, paint still look new as seen in pictures

Reviewed as willing homolagation special, the low-production SP2 was improved even as Honda transitioned to 4-cylinder competition machines.  For the weekend warrior, a torquey v-twin can generate a lot more grins than the latest high-revving four.  And likely this RC51 will see an occasional track day and not a full season, it’s just too nice.  A lot of good mods, on an updated platform, and cared for, a good combination.  The owner asks $15,000 obo and can be reached at 954-809-8596.

1200cc bargain – THREE Yamaha FZR400 track bikes!

Mike 1

For sale: 3 Yamaha FZR400 track bikes

FZR400s are very popular bikes on RSBFS, and thanks to reader Shawn we can add these three track bikes to the roster. Now these are a little less stock than the pristine FZR400 we recently listed, but you can purchase all three of these together for less than the price of that one – plus you can ride the heck out of them without worrying about the mileage snobs giving you grief.

The little Fizzer is a natural tracker thanks to an outstanding aluminum delta box frame, light weight and a rev happy motor. While it won’t hang with the big boys down the straights, the razor-sharp handling and great braking ability help it make up ground around a roadcourse.

From the seller:
For sale 3 Yamaha FZR400’s. They all run and are if different state of repair and modifications. $3500 takes them all.

The black and silver one has the following done:
Marvic wheels, full exhaust, flat slide carbs, R6s forks, r6 brake assy, custom triple clamps, penske rear shock, YZF bodywork, rearsets, motor is stock.

The yellow one has the following:
17 in rear wheel and ohlins shock.

The last one is a bit banged up from but runs well but needs bodywork.

These bikes handle really well and are easy on tires and gas.

Perhaps you missed that hidden gem in the seller’s text: $3500 takes them all

The general concensus from the boards is:

1. These bikes are a major bargain

2. These are track only bikes, and not likely to become street legal very easily

3. If you are going in together with your buddies you want the silver one

For more information on this trio of screamers, click the link and head over to the California Bay Area Riders Forum (BARF). Sure looks like cheap fun to me!
