The Lost Limited: 1994 Suzuki GSX-R 750 SP (U.K.)

spsp right

The forgotten one of the limited edition GSX-R’s.  The design had gotten old and heavy, they were never imported into the Untied States and only a few hundred were produced;  it all adds up to one rare and highly collectible bike.  What it lacks is the wow factor of the 89 RR and 86 LTD.  Instead it has a list of small targeted upgrades to help reduce weight and help scoot it around the track.  I’ve highlighted a few below but the seller has included the full list on the auction.

1994 Suzuki GSX-R 750 SP for sale on eBay

sp carbs 2

The larger 40mm flatside carbs.

sp carbs

You can just see the magnesium head cover.  Those would be fun to try and order from your local Suzuki parts man.

sp frame

The seller describes a feature I had not heard of, tuneable head pipes via an adjustable bolt to help fine tune carbs.  Kind of interesting the engineers would waste even a single yen on this since the exhaust system is the first thing tossed for racing.

sp brake

Six pot brakes lifted from the 1100.  Wheels are lighter as well.

sp front

The seller claims only six were imported into the U.K. by Crescent Suzuki.  I thought I’d never see one for sale but in the last couple of years we’ve seen 3 or so listed (all in Europe).  Bid accordingly if you are trying to finish off a collection.

The auction is right here.

Boy, you guys must be a real pain in the ass. This poor seller is advertising another bike to sell and people spot a fender of interest in the background. So after emails, knocks on the door and a few of you hiding in the garage, here it is. I might have embellished that story a little bit but you get the idea.

The purists will spot that it isn’t original. It has had a restoration and I’ll let the seller tell the story:

HELLO.WELL HERE IT IS MY 1986 GSXR750 LIMITED.I AM SELLING A FEW OF MY BIKES.I WASNT REALLY SELLING THIS ONE BUT SOME PEOPLE WITH GOOD EYES HAVE SEEN IT IN THE BACKGROUND IN PICTURES OF MY OTHER BIKES AND WANTED TO KNOW IF I WANTED TO SELL IT.THIS IS A RESTORED BIKE BY ME AND SOMETHINGS ON IT ARE NOT EXACTLY BACK TO OEM AND IM SURE SOME PEOPLE WILL ASK WHY I DID THIS OR WHY I DID THAT.I DID IT BECAUSE I PERSONALY THINK IT EITHER LOOKS BETTER OR HANDLES BETTER OR STOPS BETTER.THATS WHY SOME THINGS ARE NOT ORIGINAL.THAT BEING SAID THIS IS A VERY CLEAN EXAMPLE OF A 1986 LTD.I BOUGHT THIS BIKE A FEW YEARS AGO FROM THE OWNER WHO HAD IT FOR 19 YEARS AND HE BOUGHT IT FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHO OWNED A MOTORCYCLE SHOP AND IT WAS NOT RIDEN ONLY DISPLAYED.I HAD THE BIKE SHIPPED TO MY HOME IN LAS VEGAS AND I WAS AT WORK AND MY WIFE CALLED ME AND SAID THE BIKE WAS HERE BUT THOUGHT THAT THEY SENT THE WRONG BIKE.IT WAS NO WHERE NEAR THE BIKE I BOUGHT FROM THE PICTURES.THE PICS I RECIEVED MUST HAVE BEEN FROM WHEN HE FIRST BOUGHT IT AS THE BIKE WAS IN VERY SAD SHAPE.I DIDNT WANT TO BUY A BIKE TO RESTORE BUT THIS BIKE WAS TO BAD TO JUST LEAVE IT LIKE IT WAS.I STRIPED THIS BIKE DOWN TO THE FRAME AND BUILT IT UP TO THE BIKE YOU SEE IN THE PICS.THE BIKE WAS PROFESSIONALY REPAINTED BACK TO ORIGINAL COLORS BUT EVERY DECAL ON THE BIKE IS NOW PAINT.THE PAINT IS STUNNING.THE WHEELS ARE POWDER COATED THE BRIGHTER BLUE NOT THE DARK BLUE LIKE THE ORIGINAL BECAUSE I LIKE THE BRIGHTER WHEELS(THE PURIST WILL FROWN ON THAT)THE REAR SHOCK WAS REPLACED BECAUSE THE WHITE POWER THAT CAME WITH IT WAS SO CORODED AND RUSTED AND LEAKING THAT IT WAS PRETTY MUCH SHOT.THE BRAKE LINES WHERE DRY ROTTED AND WHERE REPLACED WITH STEEL BRAIDED LINES.THE AIR FILTERS THAT WHERE ON THE BIKE WHERE K&N AND IN VERY SAD SHAPE TO NOT USUABLE SHAPE SO WHERE REPLACED UNTIL I FOUND A GOOD ENOUGH AIRBOX TO PUT ON(HAVE YET TO FINE A CLEAN ONE)THE EXHAUST WAS ALREADY ON THE BIKE WHEN I GOT IT AND IT IS THE YOSHIMURA DUPLEX SYSTEM WITH THE BOOST CANS ON THE DOWN PIPES.VERY NICE EXHAUST AND IF YOU WERE WANTING A TOP OF THE LINE AFTERMARKET EXHAUST BACK IN 86 THIS WAS ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GOT.THE MILES ARE VERY LOW AND WHEN I BOUGHT THE BIKE IT READ 735 MILES.I HAVE NO REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS NOT THE AUCTUAL MILES.THE OWNER WAS IN SCHOOL TO BE A PILOT WHEN HE BOUGHT THE BIKE AND IT WAS RARELY RIDING AND WAS SITTING FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AND WAS BASICALLY GIVEN UP ON.I WOULD SAY THIS BIKE SAT FOR 18.5 YEARS OF THE 19 HE OWNED IT.WHEN YOU HAVE INSECTS MAKING THERE HOME ON THE INSIDE OF THE FAIRING CORNERS OF THE BIKE IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ALONG TIME.THE TIRES HAVE 600 MILES ON THEM AS THEY WERE REPLACED BY ME.THEY ARE BRIDGESTONE BT016R RADIALS.THE TIRES THAT CAME WITH IT WERE MICHELIN HI SPORTS AND IF YOU CAN REMEMBER THAT FAR BACK THEY HAVENT MADE THAT TIRE IN PROBABLY 15-20 YEARS.THE CHAIN WAS REPLACED BY ME AS THERE WERE NO MORE O-RINGS LEFT ON IT.THEY WERE JUST GONE.THE BIKE WAS PURCHASED IN ALABAMA AND IT IS HIGH HUMIDITY AND HIGH RUST.JUST IMAGINE LEAVING A BIKE IN A GARAGE OR SHED FOR 18 YEARS AND YOU GET THE IDEA OF HOW BAD IT WAS WHEN I RECIEVED IT.I HAVE GONE THROUGH EVERY BOLT AND BRACKET AND SPACER AND EITHER THEY WERE REPLACED OR POLISHED.I HAVE OVER 300 DOLLARS JUST IN OEM ORIGINAL NUTS BOLTS AND 1/4 TURN FASTNERS.I THINK THAT THE PICTURES TELL YOU HOW CLEAN IT IS.IM SURE THERE ARE MORE ORIGINAL LTD’S OUT THERE BUT YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND ONE AS CLEAN AS THIS.EVEN UNDER THE REAR FENDER I CAN EAT OFF IT.ITS THAT CLEAN.IT IS STORED IN THE HOUSE AND STARTED ONCE A MONTH.THE PRICES OF THE LIMITED’S ARE RANGING FROM 10K TO A SUPER CLEAN ALL ORIGINAL THAT WENT FOR 22K A FEW MONTHS BACK.I PERSONALY THINK THAT MY BIKE WOULD NOT BE LOOKED DOWN ON EVEN NEXT TO AN ALL ORIGINAL LTD.IM 43 YEARS OLD AND ME AND THE WIFE HAVE PURCHASED A NEW HOME AND IM HAVING A SHOP BUILT SO THE WIFE CAN PARK HER CAR BACK IN THE GARAGE. THATS WHY IM SELLING A FEW OF MY BIKES.IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL OR WANT ANYMORE PICS I CAN TAKE THEM.THERE IS NO WARRANTY WITH THIS BIKE AND ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

I guess the seller didn’t learn his lesson about including bikes in the background of his photos.

It has been a nice summer for buyers interested in GSX-R750 LTD’s.  You have had your pick of museum piece examples to nicely modernized bikes.  The good news is that there is no reserve so get serious with those bids.

Here is the auction.

Life is pretty good if you have been in the market for a GSX-R 750 Limited.  There has been a steady stream of nice examples for sale over the past few months.  Now, you may not be so happy with the selling prices if you are buyer but you can’t complain about supply.

ltd closeUnfortunately there is no real info about the bike from the seller.  It looks like it is listed by a dealer who wants to tell you how rare it is instead of its’ history and condition.  Mileage is listed at a moderate 12,200.

ltd filterWhile the bike  appears mostly stock,  the air box has met the garbage can and a period Yoshimura muffler replaces the original.

ltd clutchI think I include this photo on every Limited I post.  I never get tired of it either.

ltd left 2Nice and mostly stock examples like this have been selling in the $10,500-$12,500 range lately.

And The Market Says? 1986 Suzuki GSX-R750R Limited

1986 Suzuki GSX-R 750 Limited For Sale

The last one sold for, wait for it:  $22,400!   That particular Limited was basically a 850 mile, untouched time capsule from 1986.  This one doesn’t meet those ultra high standards but it looks like a very nice example in it’s own right.

Sometimes I wonder if I should post any other picture of a limted than this one.  The carbs/airbox combo is one of the few mods.

The story:

This 1986 GSXR 750 Limited Edition has been in storage for over 20 years. It has had only one owner. The Arizona title shows MSO as previous record. Mileage is box A and original. The body work and all parts are as they came from the factory in 1986. If you know vintage sport bikes, you know that these were very rare and expensive bikes compared to their non Limited Edition counterparts. The only modifications that were done to the bike was the installation of GSXR1100 Carbs and air box. This was common during that period to maximize performance. The stock GSXR 750 Air Box comes with the bike. The original Carbs are not available. Lockhart Phillips Turn Signal Buds were installed at one time. These were removed and the original Turnsignals were installed. The Lockhart Phillips Turnsignals also come with the bike. The front brake lines were replaced with steel braided lines and the original rubber brake hoses also come with the bike. There are extra engine ignition point covers as well. The fork sprngs are Progressive Springs and the original springs also come with the bike. A Lockhart Phillips front Headlight cover is also on the bike. There are some scratches and chips on the paint. Overall,it is in outstanding condition and runs very well. The original owners manual and tool kit are also included. The values on these keep increasing. Bid now and own a piece of history. I reserve the right to end the auction early as this bike is for sale locally as well.

Looks just as clean under the bodywork.  One simple trick I use is looking for the OEM Suzuki zip ties.  If missing, well, things have come off the bike.

$T2eC16RHJIYE9qUcOO2+BRn(9kGSvg~~60_3

Well kids, she isn’t going to be cheap but how high will the market drive the price?  Other than the missing stock carbs, it is all there.  I’d consider the mileage still on the low side for a bike built in 86.  Am I in the ballpark at $12,500?  Whatever the price they are one highly desirable bike.

If it does sell for way above average maybe it is time to start burying Limited’s in my backyard instead of gold.

Low Mile Limited, Limited Time Remains: 1986 GSXR750 Limited

Low Mile Limited, Limited Time Remains:  1986 GSXR750 Limited

The RSBFS management team is going to be on my butt for letting this one sit: or will they?  This one started as a six day auction and as of this writing; not a single bid has been placed with two days remaining.  What gives?  Is the bikes not all it is cracked up to be or is the $10,000 starting bid too lofty?

The details from the seller:

This very rare 1986 GSX-R 750 is in excellent condition. Super low 1863 miles, you probably won’t find one with lower miles! I am the original owner. It has always been garaged and kept clean but has not been started for a few years. The paint job is original and still looks fantastic. It has a few nicks and some minor scratches to the paint, but no damages otherwise.

My amateur eye spots mis-colored wheels and the air box missing.  A friend of mine who is a Limited owner thought the carbs might look like Canadian versions.  I want to say I remember a RSBFS reader stating the Canadian bikes had different tanks as well.  I do not remember what that difference is.  Did this bike start its’ life in America Lite?

Having pointed that stuff out, it has less modifications than most Limited’s I’ve seen.

Maybe it is just the pictures but it just seems a little dull for only having 1863 miles on it.  The pod filters seem like an odd modification for a bike with low miles.

Although the starting bid is high we have seen very nice examples of 1986 Limited sell in the $10,000 to $12,000 range.

Check out the auction here.

Not The Limited, Not The RR: 1994 Suzuki GSXR750SP

Not The Limited, Not The RR:  1994 Suzuki GSXR750SP

RSBFS alumn and ZXR750R expert Doug found a gem of a Suzuki for us, a 1994 GSXR750SP.  This is the first SP I’ve ever seen listed for sale.  While the 1986 Limited and 1989 RR are the most sought after, the SP has them beat in the rarity department with only 200 being produced.  I know the lack of a solo seat throws off most people.  It just doesn’t look like the homologation special it was built to be.  The pink graphics and blue seat don’t help either.

Here is a sampling of what you got with the SP:

Large flatside Mikuni TRM40 carbs

Close ratio gearbox

Exhaust with increased flow

Magnesium head cover and case covers.

Thin walled forks

Lighter and more rigid swing arm

These items I believe to be on the bike but can’t confirm:

Lighter wheels

6 pot Tokico brakes from the GSXR1100

Revalved suspension for racing

By 1994 the GSXR750 had become quite the porker compared to the original GSXR750 and even with all the features listed above the SP was only 2kg lighter than the standard bike.

The bike for sale sure looks like a mint example;  bone stoke and only 5.562 miles traveled.  The only draw back?  You guessed it: price.  The bike is being advertised at 16,995 GBP (roughly $26,500).  A steep price to pay but if you have the other two limited GSXR’s…….

These along with the gearbox would have to be the highlights of the bike.  The RR and the SP don’t have the dry clutch that everyone likes so much on the Limited.

Click it to own that last homologation special Suzuki built.

Sorry I don’t have better images of the brochure but pictures and info is scarce on this one.

Holy Grail Found? 1986 Japanse Spec GSX-R Limited & 1989 GSX-R750R

1986 Japanse Spec GSX-R Limited & 1989 GSX-R750R

How do you make your friend with the 86 GSX-R 750 Limited jealous?  Answer: show up on either one of these bikes. Chris, an eagle eyed reader of RSBFS in Australia sent us these gems.  As a true fan of Suzuki’s I can honestly say my jaw hit the floor when I saw these two bikes for sale.  I’ve seen the Japanese spec Limited for sale in Japan before but never outside of there.  Excluding a couple of scam ads, I’ve neve seen a 89 GSX-R750R for sale.

——————————————————————–

 Details first on this one:

A must see!!! A 1986 GSXR 750R limited edition, A true superbike with only 23000kms,1 of only 1000 made, flat side carbys, dry clutch, all original condition, runs excellent, a true collectors bike, the price is not neg!! 6 months rego and a Red Baron warranty included.

I wasn’t sold on this one until I read it had a warranty!  Well, if you never knew, Suzuki built a home market version of the 86 GSX-R Limited and this is it.

Do I hear some right clicking and saving going on?  If you don’t recognize those colors, they are Yoshimura corporate colors in Japan.  It is interesting to note that there are a couple differences in stickers comparing the bike for sale to the brochure.  I did look up a Limited for sale in Japan and it looks exactly like the bike for sale in Australia.  Mechanically I’m assuming it is the same as a stateside Limited.  Taking into account Japanese laws about engine size and hp I guess there could be some differences.  Can anyone confirm or deny?

Just an incredible find if you ask me.  To top everything off the darn thing is stock.  The muffler hasn’t even been changed.  There is no trailering this one up as it is located in Australia.  I can think of worse places to have to go pick up a bike.  Asking price is $9,000.  I do not know if the asking price is in Australian or US dollars since we  use the same symbols.  Check out the ad here

——————————————————————————————————————–

Not impressed with the first GSX-R?  How about this one?  Seen one of these at your local hang out lately?   Ever?

 Details please:

GSXR750 RR 1989 model one of 500 world wide 21000kms excellent condition never been raced second owner since new Stored for 12 years ridden occasionally started regularly Would suit collector valuable piece of Suzuki history

I know, I wanted more pictures too.  Would you take it for $15,000  (again I do not know if that is Australian or American dollars)?  I sure as heck would.   Clean, low mile 86 Limited’s have been selling in the $10,000 to $12,000 range.  For three thousand more you get one of the rarest Suzooks ever made?  Sign me up.  I did do a little searching though and found this bike has been for sale for a little while at a higher price.

One of the best looking bikes ever produced and full of Suzukis’  best back in 89.

Some of the goodies included were a long stroke engine, close ratio gearbox, 40mm Slingshot carbs, aluminum gas tank and braced swing arm.  The Japanese sure don’t put much effort into limited editions nowadays.  Check it out here before booking the ticket to Australia.

A highly modified RR

A teaser video of two tucked away somewhere in Japan.
