Although it’s unquestionably a handsome bike, there’s really only one reason to own the CBX1000, Honda’s big lump of late 70s UJM muscle: that giant inline six slung across the frame, with its matching cascade of six exhaust pipes. Displacing 1047cc, with dual overhead cams and 24-valves, the engine produced a surprisingly modest 105hp and the bike weighed a hefty 600lbs full of fluids. The standard suspension wasn’t really up to the task and handling was mediocre, but the engine had a wide spread of power and made glorious noises, especially with a freer-flowing exhaust fitted. A number of boutique manufacturers attempted to better Honda’s attempt by building lighter, stiffer chassis to house the spectacular engine, and a second generation of the bike offered a monoshock suspension, better wind protection from a full fairing, and fitted luggage, but the original, naked classic still commands the most attention and the highest values by far.

Aside from the weirdly low effort eBay listing that includes conflicting information [the odometer] and confusing content [READY REGISTRATION?], this Honda CBX1000 appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition with just 4,289 miles showing on the odometer. Or is it the 4,639 mentioned in the listing? Either way, the bike is fitted with a very nice, period appropriate Kerker 6-into-2 exhaust system. Sure a 6-into-6 would evoke the racing Hondas of old and announce to the world that you do indeed have a six-cylinder motorcycle, but the Kerker pipes look sharp, should sound great, probably weigh less, and might offer a bit more ground clearance as well. The bike appears to run, thanks to the very short, four-second clip included in the listing, but otherwise there isn’t much information here. I’d have some questions for the seller before plunking down the nearly $20,000 being asked.

Bless the humans that have done the work to post youtube video of these things being legit toadraced back in the day. Eye popping, especially in the wet. Amazingly heroic stuff. I am decades too young to to have been aware the factories actually supported such.
