Unless you are a collector who enjoys storing and presenting your favorite two wheelers, the window when you have the resources and ability to have fun with something like a Ducati 1098R make it kind of a short-term purchase. This original owner -R returns to the market in very cherry shape and barely broken in.
2008 Ducati 1098R #115 for sale on eBay
Meant to homologate the next generation of Ducati for the Superbike World Championship, the 1098R actually uses an 1198cc testastretta. The EVO design along with a host of titanium engine parts allow the L-twin to push 180hp at 9,750 rpm. Outside the sand-cast crankcase, carbon is the material of choice, making up cam belt covers, fenders, and fairings. Öhlins dampers are found front, rear and at the steering head, forks with Ti-nitrided sliders and the twin-tube monoshock helps set-up by allowing ride height adjustment independent of damping settings. Brembo monoblock calipers put their grip on 330mm rotors when electronic traction control and hydraulic slipper clutch are done. As one might expect on the flagship, design and execution are to drool for.
Though the owner relies on the “too much to list” timesaver, but every corner of this -R has been personalized. The cockpit has an updated windscreen, reservoirs, grips and rearsets. Carbon occupies usual parts like the fuel filler and places the factory hadn’t thought of, like the frame cover. From the eBay auction:
Pristine, pampered, one-owner, kept in a climate-controlled environment, no children, no pets.
NEVER rained on. NEVER tracked. NEVER raced.
ORIGINALLY $42,000+, plus MANY extras. If you know what you’re looking at, you will appreciate all of the extras and attention to detail that has been invested into this super machine.
The 1098 returned the Ducati superbike to a more 916 side-by-side look, and excised the canister exhaust in favor of Termi’s. In the case of the -R, it might be the first Ducati where traction control was basically a requirement, and many owners found throttle tamers part of their solution. Not sure how much more depreciation can be expected of a race-prep Ducati with so little use – if you are still in the sweet convergence of time, money, and physical fitness, this might be the moment.

Is that carbon fiber sticker thing for the frame and the swingarm some sort of knowing joke? It looks ridiculously dumb, but hey, that’s like, my opinion, man. Otherwise, lovely bike.
I have to say this is when I kind of lost interest in Ducatis as an object of lust. I am sure its a technological leap forward over the 999 but it looks to much like something you could get from Aprilia or yamaha for my tastes (except for the color of course).
its kind of like when Kawasaki starting making the ZX7 series in black or red…somehow it just felt wrong to me
Or maybe im just getting old..durn kids..get of my lawn!!
I couldn’t find that frame guard on Shift-Tech’s website, but they have 76 other pieces for the 1098… 🙂
Love these and more than a fair price with those miles and condition, IF it is as it appears. Hard to tell from the “lazy” cut and paste description. Take a little time and thought and tell me about “your” bike not “the” bike.
