The Honda NC35 stands out as an exceptional machine that deserves a spot in every enthusiast’s garage. Its relative scarcity in the US, owing to limited official importation, only adds to its allure. Boasting a striking aesthetic inherited from the RC45 and a captivating exhaust note courtesy of its remarkable V-4 engine with gear-driven cams, this motorcycle is a visual and auditory delight. Its superior maneuverability, owed to its compact dimensions and reduced weight compared to larger counterparts, further contributes to its appeal. It’s a bike that fulfills a multitude of desires – a collector’s gem, a thrilling ride, and a proud showpiece. And, in true Honda fashion, its durable craftsmanship ensures longevity that will span generations.

Honda embarked on a significant overhaul of the VFR400R, implementing a fresh chassis, inverted forks, and 17-inch wheels both front and rear. The inclusion of air scoops and tracts over the handlebars provides a source of invigorating airflow, if not quite ram air induction. Adjustable forks and monoshock, offering pre-load and rebound settings, are accompanied by Nissin-branded 269mm brakes. Even from a distance, the design elements could easily lead one to mistake it for an RC45.

Under the hood lies a race-derived V4 engine employing a “big-bang” 360° crank, gear-driven camshafts, and a distinctive single-sided swingarm. The rear wheel is secured by a solitary large nut, showcasing a dedication to engineering excellence. The only design compromise seems to be the somewhat gaudy plastic snorkels protruding from the tank, directing air to the airbox. Despite the 399cc engine only producing a claimed 59hp, the majority of power manifests near the 13,000rpm mark. However, the available power at lower revolutions remains surprisingly practical, preventing the bike from feeling sluggish despite the modest horsepower output.

From the seller:
Not to be mistaken for any standard JDM… this iconic HONDA RVF400 NC35 is a turnkey and ready to ride build. Unlike others currently being offered in the USA, THIS IS NOT A PROJECT and is a fully-sorted and ready to ride street bike! The extensive work and expensive costs of building have already been done and is located in Southern California.
The NC35 was a little brother to the legendary RC45 and one of the greatest 400s ever built. With that distinction, the NC35’s fit and finish was first-class, and the model had all the hallmarks of a full-size superbike….and turned up a notch by the South African preparer, Autohaus Breytenbach.

1994 Honda RVF400 NC35 – with its signature single-sided swingarm, this V4 powerplant features a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90-degree, 399cc V4 with four-valves per cylinder, gear-driven cams, and quad 28mm carbs.
It is only natural that the junior model to the RC45 was spec-ed beyond the usual, with fully adjustable upside-down forks, 4-pot Nissin brakes, and 17-inchwheels. The little V-four was quite oversquare and made 61 hp on the street with a 14,500 rpm redline. Gear-driven cams sing a tune not heard often these days, though a little harder to hear behind the open exhaust on this racer. Reviewers drained the superlative tank on the RVF, and though expensive for the time, build quality was such that it was a wonder Honda made a dime on them.Never officially sold outside of the Japanese market, the RVF400 featured a V4 engine in an aluminum twin-spar frame paired with upside-down 41mm Showa forks and a Showa monoshock out back. Dual front discs with Nissin calipers help to slow the 400 from its roughly 125 mph top speed.
Prior to its arrival in the USA, this RVF400 had been a previous owner’s track day build in South Africa. It has been rebuilt to keep all the full race power, with recently refreshed and updated mechanically and aesthetically. While the amazing livery and quality is stunningly obvious, there are a lot of mods hiding in plain sight. The full race system Tyga exhaust is most evident.
