For Sale: 1985 Suzuki RG400 Gamma AND 1985 Suzuki RG400 Gamma
Maybe it’s just in my head, but the RSBFS office building smells funny. No, it’s not the burning coffee pot, and nobody stepped on a frog. It’s more like a good whiff of castor oil in the morning, the faint haze of blue smoke down the halls, and the distinct rattle and ping of a two stroke on the boil. Since I am the first one into the office this morning (and the boss isn’t around to say otherwise), I feel entitled to officially declare this to be Two Stroke Week.
What we have this morning are a pair of RG400 Gammas from north of the border. When I first stumbled across these beauties I thought the seller had made a mistake on the first auction, and tried to start over – but not so. In fact, this particular seller has quite a few smokers on the for sale list, many of which you will find right here on the pages of RSBFS. So maybe it will become Two Stroke Week after all!
The first RG400 up for auction is a 1985 model with 14,640 KM on the clock. That equates to approximately 9,097 miles if you prefer Coors over Molson. With a solo seat cover that appears to be in primer, pipes that look to be non-stock and what appear to be cracks in the fairing near the chin area, this bike has obviously been ridden. Fortunately it does not appear to be a lost cause by any means.
From the seller:
1985, 14640Km
Very rare two stroke monster by Suzuki! Certified. Low insurance.
US Buyers, we can legally export this bike to the United States!Specifications
400CC,Two stroke, Liquid cooled, Square four cylinder, 72HP , 6 speed transmission, Adjustable front & rear suspension, Front 2x & rear disk brakes, 77cm seat height, 17lt fuel capacity, 237Km/h top speed.
The seller is asking $7,900 BIN for this bike, although reasonable offers might also be accepted. To find out more, click the link and jump over to the auction.
The second of the Gammas comes to us courtesy of the same seller. The description provided by the seller is exactly the same as the first one (see above), but mileage is reported to be only 8,200 – not certain if that is KM or miles. No solo cowl on this bike, but the pipes look stock and the lowers sport a different color scheme. Perhaps we can ask our RG afficionados here on RSBFS to chime in as to the different options on an RG for that year, if the lowers were standard or not, and if so what color they should be…
This bike is priced ever so slightly lower than the first bike listed: $7,890 BIN or make offer. To see the auction, click on the link and hop on over.
Both bikes are located in Canada, and would make excellent toys to those willing to import them and brave the local DMV….. Good luck!
