After rising from the ashes of insolvency in the early 1990s, Triumph’s first goal was to create a line of profitable motorcycles that didn’t try to beat the Japanese at their own game. Instead, they built a modular range of bikes that provided a less frantic, higher quality experience, with a more road-focused feel. The original Daytona came in both 900cc triple and 1200cc four flavors, but the heavily-revised and confusingly-named T595i that followed was powered by a 955cc triple and featured an all-new frame. The 1999 Triumph Daytona T955i was slightly revised and renamed to match the displacement, and put a claimed 128hp to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. The bike was flexible, with a fat midrange that made it feel as fast over the road as lighter, more finely-honed, more powerful Japanese competitors.

When new, the Daytona 955i wasn’t a world-beater, but was definitely in the hunt: it was fast, handled well, had reasonable ergonomics, and tons of character. I think it’s a great-looking bike too and, at under $5,000, represents a huge performance bargain. This example is obviously north of the border in Canada, but is probably worth the trip: miles… ahem, kilometers are low, the bike is claimed to have had a recent service, and is such a vivid shade of yellow that only the most engrossed-in-their-cellphone drivers could possibly miss you!

a very under-respected bike, I picked up one of these about 2 years ago as something more comfortable than a true sportbike and am blow away. This is technically the 2nd iteration of the 2nd generation of the Daytona (1st gen was denoted as T595 on the bodywork and referenced the engine model (5) and CC (950) but people thought it was a fat 600cc bike so the 2nd gen of this one was decaled as 955i. Still the same bike mechanically more or less, this one appears to be a fairly early model of the 955i gen because it still has the black exhaust.
As for future value, this model seems to be the one everyone wants due to the single sided swingarm and just general fit and polish of the bike. Typical problems for this bike are tiny but can include cracks in the engine cowl, incidators rotting out and evap canister (for california bikes). Since this one seems to be up in Canada so no issue there.
Overall, a tremdous all arounder. Think VVFR 750 with more character
