Race replicas like today’s Smokin’ Joe’s Replica 1998 Honda CBR600 F3 exist because racing teams need their bikes to stand out in a crowd of buzzing, dicing, and bumping machines so fans can identify their favorite teams and riders and to promote sponsors. This bike does that well, if not tastefully: no one is going to mistake it for anything else on road or track. Honda’s CBR600 was introduced in 1987 and known here in the US as the “Hurricane.” The looks followed the trend at the time towards fully-enclosed bodywork and earned the “Jelly Mould” nickname, which had potential aerodynamic advantages, as well as freeing engineers of the need to beautify the greasy, oily bits underneath that provided motive force. This modern bodywork was made possible by a liquid cooled inline four displacing 598.5cc and producing 85hp, put through to the rear wheel by a six-speed gearbox and hung from a steel twin-spar frame. Power went up through subsequent generations but, interestingly, steel remained the material of choice for Honda through both the F2 and F3 models seen here as a cost-savings measure. It had relatively little impact on performance, however, and the bike maintained an enviable racing record, while famously being the most comfortable sportbike in its class, giving it surprising versatility.
This 1998 Honda CBR600 F3 is a Smokin’ Joe’s Replica edition that is finished in a purple, yellow, and white racing livery and is powered by a 598cc DOHC inline-four paired with a six-speed transmission. Equipment includes a solo seat, a passenger pillion, a clear windscreen, a four-into-one exhaust system, four Mikuni CV carburetors, triple disc brakes with Nissin calipers, and clip-on handlebars. The fully-faired bodywork is finished in purple, yellow, and white racing livery and is mounted over a twin-spar frame. Equipment includes a passenger pillion, a clear windscreen, a side stand, fairing-mounted mirrors, and rear-set foot controls. The tail section is said to feature Miguel Duhamel’s signature and reads “#17 Daytona 2004. The liquid-cooled 598cc DOHC inline-four was factory rated at 105 horsepower and 49 ft-lb of torque and is equipped with an electronic ignition system, a ram-air induction system, a quartet of Mikuni CV carburetors, and a four-into-one exhaust system with a Yoshimura slip-on muffler.

With 21,000 miles on the odometer, this obviously isn’t a pampered garage queen, but does appear to be in very nice condition for a CBR600 F3: their reputation as reliable transportation led to many of them being flogged to death in decades past when they could be picked up for cheap. With over 50,000 CBR600s made you’d think they’d be everywhere, but finding one in this kind of condition is difficult, especially in these colors with what is purported to be Miguel Duhamel’s signature on the tail. During the 90s, Miguel and Honda were utterly dominant in AMA Supersport racing, and this bike was built to commemorate his championship victory in 1995. Production figures for the Smokin’ Joe’s Replica aren’t clear, but no more than a few hundred were built between 1996 and 1998.

I always loved these. Especially the 1996 model. Wishful thinking I’m afraid on the price. Especially for a 21k mile example.
Yeah, I’m not sure what the going rate on a Smokin’ Joe’s replica should be, but I get the feeling this one is pretty far off. Even with Duhamel’s signature…
Looks like a corner of the room is dedicated to Smokin’ Joe and M.DuHamel. Seller must be single, LOL.
Also, whats w/ the $389 Dealer Fee?
The bike is being sold by WOW in Atlanta GA. Awesome bike but I agree that is a bit optimistic for one with higher mileage.
So the exact numbers for the SJR replicas were 500 made in 1996 and 1500 produced for the 1998 model year. It looks like WOW sold this exact bike, with the same mileage in September 2022 on BAT for $6100. Looks like it’s back up for sale again.
