RSBFS
According to Donn in 2022, “Yamaha knocked its superbike rivals back on their heels with the R1, packing 149 hp into a light, tight package.” That was a blue R1 with less than 10k miles and it was listed for $15,000.
After a little more searching to find other R1 sales I found a cool website for a motorcycle seller in Australia. Brad’s Motorcycles sold a ’98 R1 with 17,365 miles this past September. It was listed for $14,950 Australian dollars (approx. $9,560 USD).
Claudio posted an R1 here on RSBFS back in 2013, “The 1998 R1 was the most exciting news from Yamaha since the FZR750R (aka OW1). While the later R7 (750cc) represented the last exotic model (also labeled as OW2) it did fail to impress in terms of power unless you fitted the Yamaha racing kit (available at a premium on top of already an expensive buy). The 1998 1000cc motored YZF R1 with its 150 bhp and in its white and red colors was the real deal for the “masses”. In particular this color scheme, worked really well to launch the image of the R1 as an aggressive full-on super bike.”
This R1 for sale today looks to be in great condition. More photos are on ebay and the seller gives a link to a video, so check it out.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
