So are you a King Kenny fan? Or are you a 2 smoke fan? What! You’re both? Then your bike is now available for purchase.
Located in Chilliwack (I just love saying that), BC Canada is this tastefully painted 1985 RZ500.
Owned and cared for by Johnny, who has a habit of covering all things cool in British Columbia, Canada. Yes, it’s been covered in a King Kenny Roberts paint scheme and it has had a ton of cash sunk in it to bring it back from living room hibernation. Johnny tells me it’s all original sans the paint scheme and only OEM parts were used when the engine was recently freshened up. He told me this process took 7 very long months to complete due to getting parts from Japan.
As some of you know by now I’ve been bitten by the 2 stroke bug and I’m itching to throw a leg over one of these now. Since I now know what 65hp feels like when riding a 2 stroke ‘on the pipe’ I long for the the day when I can feel what one of these 500cc monsters feel like pumping out 90hp.
From the seller:
My story of the RZ was a good friend bought it new in Edmonton Alberta May 20th 1985. Knowing him and how well he kept it over the years, I always had dibs on it. The last 10 years or so, it was in his living room as an art piece. I bought it last year and put $7513 into it as
a 25 year old bike, things dry out and some bearings need replaced.
While they were inside, they replaced Piston rings, pins, valve gaskets, crankcase gaskets, exhaust gaskets, connecting rod, crank sub assembly, new O-ring chain, Bridgestone tires (the rear is one size bigger at 150/70V-18 BT-45) and all fluids and some hoses. To get the parts from Yamaha Japan, this took 7 months from when I dropped her off to picking it up. The bike feels like it did back in 87 when my buddy finally let me ride it!
While I go check my ‘buddy list’ and see who has one of these for me to throw a leg over you enjoy the extra pictures. Johnny has requested that we send you over to his blog for anyone interested in looking at it in more detail or to his original classified ad.
Well, since I don’t have any friends who own a RZ500 I’ll just have to keep looking to befriend someone who does. If you decide to pick this one up be sure to let us know.
Good luck with the sale~
Cheers!
