RSBFS
Produced from 1977 – 1979 with only a little over 3k hitting the market, these Harley cafe racers are rare.
We have seen a few XLCR’s grace the pages of RSBFS, and when Mike found one in in 2010 Pat XLCR Rider commented, “As a motorcycle, the XLCR has not much merit. As an adventure, the XLCR has no equal.” — Cycle World, May 1977 And I get that adventure every sunny day.”
Looking at the other comments on that XLCR post it is clear we have some Harley adventurers in the community.
Roland Brown at Motorcycle Classics summed it up in 2009 when he wrote, “For if ever a motorcycle was built for image rather than performance, this is the one… XLCR — pronounced Excelsior…The Café Racer concept was dreamt up by Harley design chief Willie G. Davidson, and he took the idea to the limit.”
So it seems, if performance is tops on your list, this might not be the bike for you. But if you appreciate the Harley adventure and love the cafe racer style, take a look.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
In what world is this lump a sport bike or even sport bike adjacent?
@robert – Well… we like to see America giving it the ‘ole college try.
The seating position is very sporting and the engine has great potential.
