These both obviously need lots of attention, but they have already passed their reserves and will be sold if the auctions play out to the end.

So what we have here is a restricted JDM rgv it is definetly no SP model rather common colors it is an M model. In japan it maybe called a 1990 cause of the year it was released else where it was released (uk europe) it is a 1991. This bike would need 34mm carbs and a uk / euro spec SPAC (cdi box) to make it full power. It’s also lacking the adujustable rear shock and those are R forks adjustable preload and rebound only SP forks would have comp clickers on the bottom fork lugs. SP also has aluminum triple clamps an R model has cast steel triple clamps. other differences that don’t matter so much is SP has dry clutch and close ratio gear box. rumor is all JDM rgv’s even have restricted gear boxes of 180kph. Sugaya pipes and CDI don’t mean anything special bling terms.
the TZR is just a 1989 first release standard R model non adjustable forks cept for preload and rear shock is preload and rebound adjuster yammie’s turn knob adjuster on the bottom of the shock.
These bikes also look like japanese auction bikes that are sold on a whole sale value for $1500 in such in japan!! pretty sure bikes are still in japan. you spend more then 3 grand on either one your a sucker!
I’m pretty sure they are still in Japan too. The seller thinks he can get a CA title, not sure there’s anyone selling a couple of two strokes in North America that ‘thinks’ they can get a title here in CA.
If you are bidding, I’d ask a few more questions.
SmokinJoe90, thanks for the additional information on RGV’s. Every day is school day on this site.
Mark I know JDM two smokers rather well and I bought an RGV 250 M jdm model and went through it and unrestricted it, and there is no way to get it titled in CA unless it all ready was been told that loop hole there closed quite some time ago.
Well said! i agree, I dont like the JDM 250’s, would rather buy a full power version from somewhere else
I titled my RG400 JDM in florida with the japan title.
Hey Jimbo, the California DMV is very strict on two strokes. If you haven’t got a title for a bike already, I’m unaware of any way to get that done. The seller of these two bikes states they are located in California and gives the impression that obtaining a title is easy. He may have a way of doing it, but I wouldn’t risk it with my own money. I was just pointing out that anyone buying needs to ask a few more questions.
Very envious of your RG. It’s tough to get any smoker here in Cali.
Cant you get a title from another state, then transfer it, or dont transfer it and have a out of state tag. I drove my KR250 for years with a out of state tag. If the cop wants to be a jerk he can still write you a ticket unless you are a fast talker. These guys will get a title, http://www.motorecyclenow.com/title-service.html its legal.
I had the same experience. I brought a Florida titled RZV500 to Cali when I lived there. The DMV wanted to see some original frame sticker that Cali bikes got in order to be legal. They also didn’t love the 11 digit VIN. Land to the tree huggers!
If someone has found a way to get a smoker titled in CA, please jump in. There are quite a few of us that would like to get this done. Here’s the CA situation to the best of my knowledge.
2 strokes are out. The only 2 stroke engines permitted are for garden equipment and those are getting harder to find.
To bring a (vehicle) bike into the state, if you are a resident, has to fit certain requirements and must be over 7500 miles. I believe this is to make sure you buy new vehicles in state. 7500 miles on a bike isn’t old, but would hardly be considered new!!
If you are moving here, you can bring your toys, but have to get them verified. If it doesn’t have the 52 state sticker, you have an additional step of going to see CHP so they can look at it.
2 strokes are banned.
Again, if anyone knows a way around this, please reach out. I’m not sure about the category of ‘classic’ as some of the bikes are now 25 years old.
Sorry the out of state title swap does not work in cali no more! you will be asked to take the bike in and have it inspected. Which at that time you will fail hard cause they will be looking for fmvss sticker that states it comply’s with federal safty laws and emissions! In the past guys used to titled them as homebuilt bikes which as I understand that loop hole closed back in 2002! Plus the fact they don’t like the 11 digit vin on jdm bikes because 17 digit vins are coded. Usually what they are looking for there I think it is the 6 or 7th digit on an off road bike is usally a “C” in the vin which means Closed Course aka competetion only bikes. That’s why if you ever seen one of the few 2009 aprilia RS 125’s they brought over they didn’t have this in their vin but they got coded and the frame’s have this plate riveted to the frame that says competetion use only!
So pretty much in Cali if it wasn’t reg’d before pretty much zero chance it will happen now other states are much easier.
Mark if you really wanna know they in’s and out’s ask the guys who do the daul sport conversions i’m not in ca up here in wa we can just get them inspected now and go on our way. the state patrol used to do it untill 2000 here when they stopped. bikers got pissed here and got the law changed a couple years ago and brought it back it wasn’t very easy to do they really tried to not let it happen.
The totalitarian dmv in cali prevents two strokes from being registered for street use….which is why two stroke street bikes that are already registered go for big money here in cali
I’m sure the seller of the tzr and rgv can get a cali title for those bikes ……otherwise he wouldn’t have brought it up…he is in his right to charge anyone for obtaining a cali title……..I know there are pleanty of haters and dreamers wishing they could plate their bikes here in cali…..I would try and get a hold of him
I did connect with him. The response was ‘I think I can get C A title but it may cost at least $300. Easier to use title service’.
Hence starting the thread in case anyone in this community was bidding.
Well then that’s that…………..seems like the people that get their bikes plated must know a chp vin officer….that’s the only way I can see people getting a plate in cali for a smoker
And a lot of people call this the land of the free ?…….free to swap a plate from another bike while I ride my smoker on the streets of cali is as good as it gets for some of us……with fingers crossed
Knock wood! I have not been pulled over in 20 years.
