Originally posted in May, this ex-Steve Crevier Aprilia/Rotax racer is back. The opening ask continues to be set at $10k. There were a few takers last round, but the bike never met reserve. All links updated. MI
Wake up, Walter Mitty – your transportation has arrived. This fantastic looking racer is claimed to be an ex-factory effort and includes history in not only the Austrian 250GP series, but in a Canadian series as well (where it was ridden to victory and two titles by country hero Steve Crevier). If you are looking for a track bike with creds, this is where you step up.
During the mid-1980s, Aprilia outsourced engines from Rotax. Thus, this bike is more fo a Aprilia-Rotax hybrid; the Italian company constructing the chassis and the Austrian company providing the engine and transmission. Rotax is a well-known name in two-stroke racing circles, and this combination provded successful for Aprilia.
From the seller:
This 250cc Rotax powered two-stroke tandem twin is a “factory” World-level Grand Prix machine; one of a pair that were campaigned in the Austrian 250GP series. Given the proximity to the Rotax factory, the Austrian team was given full “world spec” machines with factory support. This particular machine made its way to Canada where Team Champini sponsored multi-time Canadian National Champion Steve Crevier rode it to two Canadian Pro-250 GP titles. This machine has all the good stuff and after being sampled by the current owner at a few track day events, it was decommissioned and put on display. Alan Cathcart raved about the one he tested in Classic Racer – Jul/Aug 2012. Engine #212582, Frame # 21259.
What equate to works race bikes don’t come cheap. But they do go fast, make ALL the right noises and look absolutely gorgeous while doing so. This bike is avialable in Ontario, Canada, and the opening ask is $10,000 USD with reserve in place. Click the link to check out the details (as well as the hi-res pics), and then jump back and tell us what you think. Is this what you like to see on RSBFS?

What’s the engine parts availability like for these Rotax two stroke engines? My NSR is always a struggle, you think this is worse or better?
if you think your nsr is a struggle this be a nightmare for you in getting parts I bet.
^^^Yup. And what type of track time would you need to look for to use it? AHRMA vintage classes?
Great little bike, parts are always a challenge for rare and classic bikes, that’s what makes them classics, they’re old. Being a fan of classic racing machines (read I’m old too) I like seeing all classic and rare sports bikes on this site.
