Push Play – 1987 Yamaha YSR50 with 708 Miles !

Update – Sold to a reader a few hours after posting on RSBFS, but still fun to look at…

Never going to be the only bike in the garage, but the YSR50 might just win the smiles-per-cc sweepstakes.  Today’s has somehow maintained all its DOT required equipment over the years, which seems to have protected the scale fairings like a force field.

1987 Yamaha YSR50 for sale on eBay

Overdone in a tongue-in-cheek way, the YSR50 had a disk brake up front and five-speed trans to go with its regulated 49 cc’s and 7 hp.  With its perimeter frame, full fairing and faux underseat exhaust ports, it’s as close to a YZR500 as some of us might ever get.

This YSR is a little bit of perfection, with not even the usual roll-around scuffs.  Seeming oversized turn signals and mirrors have warded off evil spirits, and a nice repaint doesn’t hurt either.  Not sure about the seller’s title reasoning, but at this age and engine size a bill of sale would likely suffice.  Comments from the eBay auction:

The YSR50 has been displayed in my collection for the last 12 years. I have decided to sell it.
Bike is sold with a signed title but NOT IN MY NAME. Title is still in original owners name and I wanted it to stay that way. ONE OWNER. 33 Years
The reason the bike has ONLY 708 miles I believe is because the crank seal was bad on the stator side.

I brought to to my shop and took the entire bike back apart for cleaning.

The top end looked great (Standard Bore). I resealed it back up with a new top end gasket set. I removed both side covers and put new crank seals and clutch plates in.

While apart I replaced the reeds, carb kit, fork seals and gaskets

Still has the hard to find original – Nut Pad and Tool Kit (looks new)
Starts with a couple kicks.  Handle bars are straight

Seat , back and nut pad looks great

Rims / Tires look very good but are old with cracks. Could be originals

Plastics look great except one spot the size of a quarter where the upper fairing meets the lower fairing. where one of the screws hold it together(hard to see because large white washer covers it up)

Exhaust looks great

Brakes rear work great – front is full of fluid but can’t get it to bleed

Tank is bright and shiny inside.

New air filter.  New Battery

New Windscreen from New Zealand – have old one but has a small crack

Calamari Rear fender.  Forks are perfect

Warning labels look good.  Decals look great
No leaks  – Gas tank and carb is empty and cleaned.

Have bike currently in my office and don’t want fumes.

All silver, and white parts repainted and clear coated.

A little late to get it under the tree unless you’re down near Dallas, but this looks to be a super example at just* a supersport  buy-in.  And judging from the group picture, might be the sharpest two-stroke in the collection.

1991 Yamaha YSR 50 For Sale!

1991 Yamaha YSR 50 For Sale on eBay!

From the seller:
The bike has Tommy exhaust, Douglas wheels, she is all original, I’m also throwing in the black wheels, owners manual and also the original gauge, this bike is been kept in the indoors all her life, starts up first kick and she is damn fast, however because she’s been in the warehouse and I have not had the chance or the time to detail her for the past year / half or maybe two years, I just recently brought her back to the house so I would be able to take some new pictures and posted her up for sale, so I would highly recommend to whoever would be the lucky owner to just clean out the carburetor and give her some love and care before popping wheelies, I have owned over 50 of these bikes at one time, in the past year or so I have sold 33 of them,, unfortunately because of circumstances I’ve had to thin out the herd, I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to sell any more wheels, specially these babies ,, I’m not a dealer I’m simply a collector anything with wheels and I wasn’t planning to sell any more but it is what it is, my loss your gain, please look at that pictures even though the pictures don’t do her justice but she speaks for herself, she’s perfect with the Tommy exhaust and the Douglas wheels she is flawless

I truly could keep on going about this bike but I am sure if you’re out there looking for these Bad boys then you know what this bike is

First up: A Tasty Ta Ta Ta Toomey exhaust that looks to be in near perfect shape and pairs nicely with the Douglas “off road use only” polished wheels. How’s that work in Cali? Meaning, how can this pass “road worthy” inspection with those wheels? Me thinks you’d swap out . . . never mind.

If I’m not mistaken, she pumps out 7hp and tips the scales just under 170#’s. She makes use of those 7hp with a 5 speed box and can almost touch 40mph- in stock trim. Should you have a need to pump her up on power, you can reach out to Team Calimari in Salinas, CA. They do all things 50cc and have been flogging YSR’s since they originally appeared in 1987.

I usually get a lot of Ape Poo thrown at me when I post these and those pesky “It’s not a sport bike” or “It’s only 50cc” comments, but if it looks like a sport bike and sounds like a sport bike- it must be a sport bike. Right!?

I found this nice walk around YSR video for you. It showcases the YSR without the lower fairing. The audio is pretty bad and I recommend you turn the volume down. Enjoy!

YSR’s have only increased in value and with a BIN of $7,800 they don’t appear to be coming down anytime soon.

Are you interested in her? Is she showing signs of being interested in you?

Check her out here!

I wonder what “she” would say if “she” could talk? Maybe she would say “Why you ride me so hard?” Perhaps she would say “Why you try’n to hide all of my sexiness under those cheap ass stickers?” or would it be “I like the way you rev me up!”
Add yours in the comments below- Do not make me regret that! I’d hate to turn the comments off.

Cheers!

But wait there’s more . . .

This same seller has another one listed with a BIN of $6,500.

1987 Yamaha YSR50 For Sale on eBay!

I know, I know . . . To some of you these aren’t sport bikes and should never grace our lovely pages, but to the majority of you- YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE! You may be asking yourself “How does dd know this?” Well, let me just say this isn’t my first RSBFS Rodeo and I have access to those pesky behind the scenes numbers.

Let’s check it out- shall we?

1987 ysr50 fully restored all fresh powder coating on frame new paint and stickers. Fresh top end on motor dual springs up front new swing arm bushings bike is in perfect condition and needs nothing bike has been sitting in my house after it was restored has zero miles on it since it was done clean Vermont registration in my name ready to transfer

The seller says it has a clean bill of health and is ready for a new home. I’ve zoomed (put your right foot) in and zoomed (pull your right foot) out and back (put your right foot) in and looked (all about) and the only thing that I see is the frame powder coating is too dark/grey compared to the stock silver (I had this same issue on a FZR400 rusty rear sub-frame). I do like that the seller replaced all of the stickers during the rebuild- Nice touch!

Sans the mirrors, I think it’s a tidy resto and based on the bidding activity the YSR club thinks so too. At the time of writing, there are 11 bids and if there was a reserve it has been cleared so, this one will sell.

Well? What do you all think of this one? Granted, it’s not a $15,000, zero mile time machine, but it’s purty darn nice.

Check out this YSR here-

Cheers!

1987 Yamaha YSR 50 with a scant 1.9 miles!

Stealing a line from Kiss- “You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest un-used bike in the world…. Yamaha YSR 50!”
(Did you play the guitar intro to Detroit Rock City in your head like I did?) I know, that’s both corny and a bit of a stretch, but this little fella has A LOT to offer the right person and I mean A L O T!

1987 Yamaha YSR 50 For Sale on eBay with 1.9 miles!

If the 1.9 mile headline didn’t grab your attention surely this little tidbit from the seller will-

This is a 2 mile never titled YSR50. Yes the bike has 1.9 miles on it. Prev owned by Brock Yates the founder and screen writer of the Cannonball Run movie starring Burt Reynolds. This bike is a piece of history with documentation to match. This was the bike that hung on the wall in the Cannonball pub in New York for years.

I’m not going to deep dive into the previous owner and all of that because the seller has it well documented, but for us that grew up in the 80’s, it definitely adds to the fun factor of this machine.

It’s no secret I love Yamaha’s and I love them even more when they’re dressed in red and white. The little YSR’s are high on the fun factor scale, but with their 49.3cc 2-stroke single and 38 mph top speed rank a little low on the performance scale. Granted, I’m not sure I’d want to go faster than 38 mph, but I would like to get to it a little quicker.

Designed to look like it’s much, much larger and more powerful RZ500 sibling, Yamaha packed a lot into the YSR’s such as a disc brake up front, a 5 speed transmission and a full set of lights. Did I mention it’s a two-stroke 🙂

As can be expected after hanging on a bar wall for a few years, this one will need some TLC, but by the looks of it, it won’t take much to bring it back to showroom condition. The seller states it’s not in running condition and is being sold in “as is” condition. I suspect this will be the preferred condition for most serious buyers because they will want to bring it back to life under their own watchful eyes.

Fluids are in bike and was running approx 6 months ago however wont currently start. Carbs prob need cleaning.
Also the fuel door seems to be stuck. Key does go in and slightly turns however wont unlatch. The bike remains untouched as it hung in the bar. Still dusty and has spider webs on it. I did not want to clean it and tried to preserve its heritage.

Again, it shouldn’t take much to bring it back, but you will have to bring some serious cash to the table to park this one in your collection. It’s being offered at $15,000 B.I.N. or you can submit an offer. I’m thinking this one will sell because unused anything from 1987 is far and few between and when you tack on the history of this machine . . . well, it simply makes it more fun.

One for Under The Tree: 1988 Yamaha YSR50

yamaha ysr50 for sale

Well if Santa didn’t deliver any toys from your wish list, perhaps this little YSR50 will do. The seller notes that it was used in photography studio for 20 years as a prop. While it shows some storage wear, it is in largely fantastic shape with just a few scuffs here and there.

Happy Holidays from all of us at RSBFS!

Suzuka Deja Vu? 1989 Yamaha YSR50

ysr

It’s not a replica but I just see the the late 80’s Tech 2 YZF750 endurance machines sitting there.  Well, if said YZF  was a munchkin sized 50cc two stroke golorified moped.  I’m sure it is just those purple wheels messing with my eyes.  Not matter, you don’t see YSR’s in this color or with only 450 miles.  Generally, they are sprayed seven different colors and missing half of what Japan gave them.

ysr rear

The info:

1989 Yamaha YSR50 all original only 450 miles. Amazing condition, only a few minor scratches shown up close in pictures below. Very rare to find one of these in this kind of shape with so few miles. Runs great, has clear title. Includes owners & service manuals.

ysr tank 2

It’s always a good sign if those stickers have survived.

ysr top

Somebody might have went a little crazy with the spray paint.  Most photos show black for the speedo backing.  Asking price is $3,800, OBO.

Pocket Madness! ’90 Yamaha YSR 50

Location: Oconomowoc, Wisconsin

Mileage: 1,993

Price: Auction with a reserve

Want a two stroke that’s legal in the U.S. and won’t exactly overwhelm you with power? Do you want to feel like a giant on a sportbike or maybe have a 10 year old aspiring to be the next Rossi? Well, here’s your new ride. When these came out back in the day a kid in my high school rode one to school. It made no sense, but we all loved it and took turns riding it. I’m too old (read fat) for one now, but I still dig it.

Here’s what the seller has to say-

1990 YAMAHA YSR50 that runs and drives perfect! I’m a factory trained cycle tech and have gone through the bike top to bottom to prepare it for sale. Cycles needs nothing when it comes to mechanics but body was banged up and has been patched painted and touched up, looks good from a few feet out. any questions just email me or if you want you can call me. I can help arrange shipping if needed just ask. heres a youtube link to see it run and drive   http://youtu.be/oc5017hnVxE   Thanks and good luck bidding. check out my other items, bikes im selling on my current listings. I am 25 miles west of Milwaukee.

I tried to view the video to include in the post but it was listed as unavailable. Oh well. Here’s some pice at least-

The seller sounds like they have the bike in running order and it looks to be in good shape. The body has had some paintwork done and maybe you’ll want some really close photos to get an idea of how it looks.

Times are tight and maybe you want to start doing some pocket racing, or just cruising around the neighborhood looking like a maniac. Or maybe it’s an ideal bike your kid can learn on. I don’t know. I just like it. If you do too, take a look!

Collector Minis? 87 Yamaha YSR50 And 87 Suzuki GSXR50 (Gag 50)

Collector Quality Minis?  87 Yamaha YSR50 And 87 Suzuki GSXR50 (Gag 50)

I hadn’t seen any mini’s worth posting in a while until I ran across these two one night while sipping a mighty fine gin and tonic.  Hopefully those fermented juniper berries didn’t cloud my judgement.  Other than a few unwanted stickers they both look like clean little bikes with very low miles.  Judge for yourself it they would make a good addition to your collection.

——————————————————————————

Like I said, there are few stickers that shouldn’t be there but get past that and you have a  nice unmolested YSR50.  Finding a YSR to purchase isn’t a problem but finding one that hasn’t been modified is.  This owner somehow fought the urge to to even throw a pipe on it.

The facts:

935 original miles
unmodified original survivor.
synthetic 2 stroke oil
usually starts 1st kick
In my collection for 5 years
Bill of Sale – Title lost
Runs great, rides great.
Doesn’t require tag or insurance like a scooter, as it is 49cc.
For sale locally so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time.
Local pick up only, I can meet with your shipper for pick up.

Rare indeed in this condition.  Instead of taking care of them, a lot of owners were rattle can painting them various colors of the rainbow or using the owners manual as a table leveling device instead of properly maintaining them.   This one will have a new home in just a number of days as there is no reserve.  Everyone likes an auction where there will be a winner.  .

——————————————————————————

Now, if you are a Schwantz guy and not a Rainey man, then you might be interested in the GSXR or GAG50.  If rarity is your priority then the GSXR is for you.  If  performance (in relative terms) or the ability to add aftermarket parts is a priority then you better stick with the YSR.  The little GSXR does not share its’ bigger brothers reputation for speed.

From the auction:

Up for auction is a 1987 suzuki rb 50 or also known as a gsxr 50 four stroke pocket style bike ! Not many made ! This bike was a promo bike for Bellevue suzuki in Washington state and has never been registered ! I DO NOT HAVE ANY PAPER ON THIS UNIT !!!!!! My uncle was the origanal owner ! It sat in my man cave for years and now needs to go ! Buyer is responsable for shipping ! If you need help I may be able to do that ! It is available for pickup also ! The rear tail light does have a hole in it this happened when pulling it out, however I am looking for one at this time as they are no longer available from suzuki ! If I locate one I will install or send it ! The bike starts and runs normaly ! The tank is rust free.

Again, not a perfect bike but the thing only has 50 miles on it.  This auction also appears to be for keeps with no reserve.  .
