Doug shared another unused ’87 YSR50 on RSBFS back in 2021 saying, “It’s no secret I love Yamaha’s and I love them even more when they’re dressed in red and white. The little YSR’s are high on the fun factor scale, but with their 49.3cc 2-stroke single and 38 mph top speed rank a little low on the performance scale. Granted, I’m not sure I’d want to go faster than 38 mph, but I would like to get to it a little quicker.
Designed to look like it’s much, much larger and more powerful RZ500 sibling, Yamaha packed a lot into the YSR’s such as a disc brake up front, a 5 speed transmission and a full set of lights. Did I mention it’s a two-stroke…
It’s being offered at $15,000 B.I.N. or you can submit an offer. I’m thinking this one will sell because unused anything from 1987 is far and few between and when you tack on the history of this machine . . . well, it simply makes it more fun.”
That example was previously owned by Brock Yates, the founder and screen writer of the Cannonball Run movie starring Burt Reynolds. The bike is a piece of history with documentation to match.
Three years later, same make/model/year with 88 miles and no famous history.
What will the market say?
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
Seems like crazy money for a wall hanger, but what do I know?
What is he smoking?
Back in the day (~1991 i think), Yamaha tried selling new sportbikes with 1 year of insurance for riding your new streetbike. I recall these being offered that way. Back then no one my age (16) could afford the insurance on a sportbike so Yamaha tried to do something about that.
While that promotion didn’t take the new sportbike market by storm, it did spark the question of, how much should insurance cost for a 50cc SB. About $350 IIRC on top of the base sticker price. Ironically this was the only platform I could afford. It was a platform that didn’t capture my financial participation. They weren’t chick magnets either. Unless you accessorized them with small children. But even then, it wasn’t the the attention I wanted or the riding experience I hoped to achieve…. Hmmm I think I am way off topic. That’s all I have to say about that.
@Vincent I ask myself that question regularly.
LOL, as an old, grumpy collector, I’m glad I’m not the only one who shakes his head in the morning whilst reading the latest auction results.
Ended due to an error in listing. Code for it probably was sold. Wonder how much the seller got?
@Jess – I would LOVE to know how much it sold for!
