1989 Yamaha TZR250 2 Stroke For $5800

Here’s another titled and road registered 2 stroke for sale in California, a 1989 Yamaha TZR250 I spotted on Craigslist for $5800:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

THIS IS THE ONLY TZR250 THAT I KNOW OF THAT IS CALIFORNIA REGISTERED AND LEGAL TO RIDE ANY WHERE
CLEAN CALIFORNIA PINK THE ONE AND ONLY ONE THAT WILL EVER BE
the made 68 of these bikes a year and they were pre ordered from the year before for about 30 k
thats in japan and thats before import
i bought this bike from a ferrrari mechanic who had 100 bikes and brought this one fom japan
it has a nine digit vin and all stickers are in japanese
he put new tires and tuned it and there it sat for 15 years
i got it a year ago took it to my buddy steve kenny roberts racing former mechanic and he tuned it
then the miricle through my buddy at the DMV went down THIS IS THE ONE AND ONLY TZR PLATED SREET LEGAL AND CLEAN CALIFORNIA TITLED YOU CAN RIDE IT ANYWHERE
it runs perfect

CHECK THE PICS ITS BEAUTIFUL
it has 3000 miles in kilometers

The description of the bike is terrible and I suspect a few of the facts stated to be in question. Mix in a comma or period at least man! Grammar aside, of particular interest is his mention of the 9 digit VIN considering the conversation in the comments recently. Nonetheless, if you’ve been looking for something more affordable than what’s been posted recently, this might be worth the goose chase if you live nearby.

1994 Suzuki RGV Lucky Strike 250cc race replica street bike For Sale

How tasty is this RGV250 wearing the Lucky Strike bodywork?!

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

Street legal in Arizona. Last registered in 2005. Has enough milage to register in California. This is an original, factory, street legal, limited production Lucky Strike. Clean title, very rare. Finally, after many offers, I ‘m ready to part with her. 14,004 km (app 7 k miles). Adult owned, no track days. Was mainly used as display. Have a new set of plastics on the bike[…]

As awesome as this bike is with the title, desirable graphics, and low miles, I just can’t see $12k considering how many other 2 strokes I’ve listed for far less. Am I crazy or is the seller? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

1996 Honda NSR250 MC28 Repsol Replica SP For Sale in Daytona

This particular example comes with a few caveats such as some light damage on the lower fairing, needs a new oil injection pump, and a price isn’t listed with the sale.  But it does state that the mechanicals have been recently refreshed and it carries the all important title.  Even more interesting is how they obtained a title for this typically gray-market import:

HOWEVER, DUE TO A LOOP HOLE, WE HAVE A UNITED STATES TITLE FOR THIS ITEM. TITLED IN FLORIDA. SO, IN THE EVENT YOU FIND ANOTHER BIKE LIKE THIS, IT IS VERY UNLIKELY TO FIND ONE WITH A TITLE ISSUED IN THE UNITED STATES. THAT MAKES OUR EVEN MORE RARE!!

Q: WHERE DID WE GET IT?
Q: HOW DO WE HAVE A TITLE?
MY WIFE DOES AUCTIONS OF ALL TYPES. SHE HAPPENED ON AN AUCTION ONE DAY OF A WAREHOUSE. SHE BOUGHT THE WHOLE CONTENTS WITH SOME ITEMS SEEN AND SOME UNSEEN. BARRIED BY BOXES AND ALL KINDS OF STUFF WAS THIS MOTORCYCLE.

THE STATE OF FLORIDA HAS A PROCESS FOR STORAGE FACILITIES TO AQUIRE TITLES FOR ABANDONDED AND OR UNPAID VEHICALS TO GO FOR SALE AND BE SOLD.

IT REALLY IS A PROCESS AND NOT EASY TO DO. BUT IT IS DONE AND WE HAVE A TITLE FOR THE BIKE. THIS WAS THE LOOP HOLE THAT DID NOT ASK FOR PRIOR TITLES AND OR EPA STANDARDS THAT WOULD PREVENT TITLING.

This kind of detail is usually not provided on the web because it help state agencies to close such loopholes.

Anyway, back to the bike. If you’ve been on the lookout for a low miles bike in the Southeast, this could be your day. Check out this 1996 Honda NSR250 MC28 For Sale:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

1996 HONDA NSR250 NSR 250 REPSOL SP.
FACTORY RACE BIKE.
MC28
SINGLE SIDED SWING ARM – PRO ARM
TWIN CYLDER
TWO STROKE
OIL INJECTED
WATER COOLED
DISC BRAKES – EBC BRAKES
KICK START
DRY CLUTCH
PGMIV MEMORY IGNITION CARD (NO KEY) LOOKS LIKE A CREDIT CARD
DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER
ORIGINAL PLASTICS
10,938 KM OR ONLY 6,797 MILES!!

THIS IS AN ULTRA RARE EXOTIC MOTORCYCLE. FROM MY READING IT APPREARS THAT THIS IS ONE OF ONLY 1,000 MADE FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL. I BELIVE IT IS 657, LAST NUMBERS IN THE JAPANESE VIN. NOT PRODUCED FOR US EMISSIONS AND NOT IMPORTED HERE FOR STREET USE. BIKES WERE SOLD MOSTLY IN JAPAN OR EUROPE. SO DUE TO US EPA STANDARDS YOU CAN NOT GET A TITLE FOR STREET USE.

Depending on price, this could make for a great track bike or fixer.

A Pair of Classic Yamaha Two-Strokes For Sale: Yamaha RZ350’s

Many of the readers coming to this blog are looking for the Yamaha RZ500, and while I haven’t found one of those today, I have found two RZ350’s for sale here in the Pacific Northwest.

1984 Yamaha RZ350 For Sale on Craigslist Spokane

quote from the seller’s Craigslist post:

Spec 2 full fairing bodywork painted in the yellow/black color combo
Spec 2 expansion chamber exhaust
Mikuni 34mm carbs, custom billet intake with internal equalizer passage, pod airfilters, oversized reed cages and 4 petal reeds.
Adjustable steering damper, clip ons, billet tripple tree and fork brace.
Spec 2 rearsets
Fox clicker rear shock with remote reservoir
Re sprung front fork
Steel braided brake lines
Powdercoated frame

1984 Yamaha RZ350 For Sale on Craigslist Portland

quote from seller’s Portland Craigslist ad $3600:

the bike comes with a slew of extras.
* original 80’s full fairing kit with sqaire headlight conversion.
* extra tank
* extra tail
* extra front fender
* EXTRA ENGINE!!!

The bike has larger 30mm carbs with clamp on style k&n’s. Allspeed pipes and silencers. new chain, sprockets, clutch, battery and brake pads.

this bike is oil injected so there is no worrys at the pump when it comes to premixing the fuel.

it has a adjustable steering stabilizer and a fork brace.

the bike has 28k but has had a recent top end to freshen things up.

Neither one of these are perfect beauty queens. But I like the full faired bodywork installed on the first one. And the second one offers a ton of spares plus full fairing bodywork pieces and a spare engine! And both are $4k or less! Seems like an affordable way into the classic bike market before these start going up in price – and a ton of fun to ride in the meantime!

1993 Honda NSR 250R MC21 SE For Sale in California

Last year for the MC21, this 1993 Honda NSR250 features the ‘flash’ bodywork. This a two owner, all California ownership bike (though the odometer reads in kilometers), and it has a good title and tags!

1993 Honda NSR 250R MC21 SE For Sale on eBayMotors:

quote from seller’s eBayMotors listing:

This is a two owner 1993 SE model NSR250 MC21, it is VERY original and has been well kept with low miles and only a few tasteful mods. This bike has been in the US and CA titled for well over a decade.

Of all the NSR’s I have had over the years this one sticks out as one of the most original, intact examples I have seen.

The last year of the MC21, an SE model in the “Flash” Honda colors.

Everything from the chassis to the engine on this 21 is very clean and unmodified! The bike is 15 years old, but does not look like it…there are some small flaws in the bodywork as you would expect, but the overall package is unreal for a 1993 MC21! The bike starts on 1-2 kicks, the feel, sound and power of the engine is like new, likewise with the rest of the bike, it truly is a time-capsule NSR….

This is an original SE model, dry clutch, adjustable suspension and standard aluminum wheels. It is an R9N code, last year of the MC21

This ad features probably 100 images of the bike from every angle, and he even faithfully notes all the flaws in the bodywork. Most of the pics show a really well looked after bike and a loving owner that paid attention to the right details but kept the bike largely stock. The buy-it-now on this bike is $9200. Feels a little on the high side, but if it checks out as a ‘no stories ready to ride’ example I could see the right buyer making the purchase.

If this MC21 NSR250 is a little out of reach, what about this 1990 MC21 I posted last week? Comments appreciated!

Fancy a Brand New 2009 Aprilia RS125?

This dealer in Maryland has a zero mile 2009 Aprilia RS125 For Sale and is showing a buy-it-now price on eBaymotors for $6500! The catch? Not title and provisions for turn signals or license plate and other various required street legal necessities. But as a 125, does it qualify as a scooter in some states and provide legal use with legal add-on’s? Seems like it could be a pretty cool around town commuter!

quote from eBaymotors listing:

This auction is for one 2009 Aprilia RS 125. The motorcycle is brand new with zero miles and comes with the full factory warranty. This motorcycle is not street legal (no turn signals, license plate bracket, taillight and brake light switches). It is designed as the ultimate track day motorcycle. The price includes all setup, freight and derestriction charges. The bike will be completely set up full power race mode with the carburetor pre set, tps adjusted, ecu and dash configured.

After some searching online, it looks like these had a lot of buzz about them in terms of buyer expectations — as a street legal machine. The MSRP is more like $5500 and it would appear that once would-be-owners found out they were actually being sold as off-road only, interest faded. The added hassle would be a downer if it the bike wasn’t being dedicated to track days, but I still wonder how hard it could be for a 125cc versus the larger 250cc big brother. Are these hard to get or is actual selling price more like the $6500 listed here due to exclusivity? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

Here are some tasty wallpapers and videos to help you decide:

Here’s a pretty crappy video of a 2007 RS125 in action, which should be of similar spec. The motor is really REALLY high strung, which I guess is to be expected, but earplugs would be a requirement! That said, he gets the bike up to 108mph! Plenty fast considering this thing only weighs 265lbs!

1990 Honda MC21 NSR250R SE: Low Miles, Titled, and Great Price

The owner of this 1990 Honda MC21 NSR250R SE on eBayMotors is listing a buy-it-now of only $6500! Does aftermarket bodywork affect the price or are these just not as valuable as I’d think?

quote from seller’s eBay ad:

Clean and ready to ride. This bike needs nothing, runs great. Has new Tyga body, Michelin power sports, GP pipes and silencers, steering stabilizer, all stock otherwise, SE suspension (adjustable) and R motor (wet clutch). Bike came from Thailand from Tyga several years back ( have papers from previous owner). Have Ma. titled in hand, which is hard to get and makes registering for you much easier

I’ve seen Tyga products listed on other ads, but I can’t same I’m totally familiar with them. So I took a look at the Tyga-performance.com website and it states the follow:

Tyga Performance specialises in providing support for non mainstream sports and racing motorcycles, as well as an increasing range of carbon fiber products for modern sportsbikes.

If you haven’t clicked the link yet, you should as the gallery and projects sections are loaded with pure 2-stroke porn! Some seriously nice looking conversions!

I like this example a lot, especially since I believe $6500 sounds pretty fair. What is your experience with this bodywork and what do you think of the price?

1989 Honda NSR250: Another West Coast Bike For Sale

These 2-strokes are everywhere all the sudden! Here’s a 1989 Honda NSR250 For Sale in Seattle that’s listed on Craigslist:

quote from seller’s Craigslist ad:

I HAVE MY HONDA NSR 250 TWO STROKE FOR SALE IS GREAT ON ONE PICE A COLLECTOR DELIGHT
$6000 NO MORE NO LESS FIRM ON THE PRICE.
IF YOU CALL YOU KNOW WHAT TIPY OF BIKE THIS IS HOW RARE AND COOL IT IS NEVER SOLD IN USA SOIL JAPAN IMPORT.
I HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE IN SEATTLE

I’d personally want one that was a bit newer, but if it’s titled, $6k sounds like a nice way into this small niche in the sportbike market.
