With Moto Guzzi’s current fortunes defined by its role as the in-house retro brand for the Piaggio Group, it’s hard to remember a time when the brand was actually innovative, and when it produced machines that weren’t powered by hulking v-twins that put their power to the rear wheel via shaft drive. Ironically, Guzzi was one of the very first manufacturers to develop the very style of motorcycle that would eventually lead to their current state of stagnation with the introduction of the Moto Guzzi 1000S. Originally a bit of a stopgap to help generate buzz and move some units before the introduction of their new Daytona sportbike, the new 1000S was a parts-bin special, an evolution of the earlier V7 Sport/750S/LeMans that even used the same Lino Tonti frame, here fitted with a 949cc version of the classic pushrod, two-valve, longitudinally-mounted, 90° v-twin. The 1993 model seen here used smaller valves than the 1991 version and produced less power, 71hp at 6,800, but offered improved midrange torque and emissions, as you’d expect. Triple Brembo brakes and Guzzi’s effective linked braking system meant the 475lb machine could stop effectively for such a classic looking machine, and standard wire 18″ wheels completed the look, although cast wheels were an option.

1993 Moto Guzzi 1000S with 18,221 original miles, finished in green and black, powered by a 949cc transverse V-twin paired with a five-speed transmission. One of approximately 1,390 units produced, this is a highly original, collector-grade example owned by the same second owner for over 20 years and recently serviced with a fresh tune-up. The bike features 18″ wire-spoke wheels with Akront rims, shaft drive, Koni rear shocks, triple Brembo brakes, polished stainless-steel fenders, and both center and side stands. It is fitted with period-correct Lafranconi silencers, delivering the definitive Moto Guzzi V-twin sound. Cosmetically mint, with original factory stickers still present on the frame and wheels. Included in the sale are the original turn signals, brake light, original exhaust system, and additional factory parts. A rare opportunity to acquire a complete, unmolested example of one of Moto Guzzi’s most collectible modern classics.
This Moto Guzzi 1000S a bit of an odd duck… er, goose, as the model technically has no actual motorsports heritage itself, a retro before retros were really a thing. But If you’re looking for a classic, Tonti-framed Guzzi, and want a bit of extra oomph to keep up with modern traffic, along with the confidence that slightly more modern electrical components bring to the table, this could be just what the doctor ordered. The $21,800 asking price might seem steep, but this particular model is extremely rare and sought after by Guzzi fans. Prices have been steadily increasing in recent years, and this example appears to be in exceptional condition with relatively low miles, especially for a Guzzi.
