Ducati’s quattrovalvole S4 was a recent 2001 addition, and deserved the commemorative treatment. Though a bit tricky to trace the Senna provenance, grey with red wheels was a Monster staple. With carbon just about everything and gorgeous red accents, today’s S4 might have a dealer-installed kit or be a factory special. Either way it’ll makes things get small in the rear view mirror with ease.
Ducati made room for the 916-based engine, and used some contemporary ST4 suspension and handlebars on the new S4. 101 hp were on tap, with a dry clutch and Brembo brakes at the ends of the Showa forks and Sachs monoshock. Reviewers found the visual noise of the radiator and plumbing a fair trade for the quick run to the redline.
From the seller –
2002 Monster S4 Senna with 916 motor.
Termignoni slip-ons, Factory carbon fiber tank and fenders, Upgraded steering damper, upgraded anodized clutch package (not slipper), Corbin “carbon look” seat, Cafe bars, Samco silicon hoses, LSL sliders.
Only 4,364 miles. Very well cared for. Seasoned rider, never abused. On tender in temp controlled garage.
S4 attributes are well-established, and it might be the best all-round four valve Monster, neutral handling and without the ludicrous speed of the later R and RS. The S4 Foggy tribute was also in the showrooms and is better known and documented. If the paperwork could show this S4 to be a factory treatment, it would a rare example, and if not, still a smashing rider.
