In 1988 Davide Tardozzi almost won the first World SuperBike title on his Yamaha powered Bimota YB4. The result at the end of the year was something of rip off. He finished third, 7.5 points adrift from Merkel.
The thing is that Tardozzi won race 1 in the hills around Nottingham at Donnington Park but by crashing in race 2 he got home with zero points. That was due the curious/cruel (and let’s be honest…unfair) rules that applied to the opening race of what remains in my memory as the best motorcycle championship of the 90s. In those years, World SBK was (to me) more exciting than Moto GP. The races were a continuos fierce battle, action was never missing and the riders created such an entertainment riding bikes that you and me could buy (provided the money was there, which wasn’t for many of us) almost in any bike shop in your town. How I miss those years…
With my thoughts back in the old days, I present here what was the street successor of Tardozzi’s YB4, the Bimota YB6:
This beautiful and in excellent condition piece of history is kept in a garage in Switzerland and on sale through the Bimota Club Switzerland. I was very very close to go and grab it myself but another encounter with one of my all time favourite just avoided that. I thought then that I should share this jewel with anybody who would appreciate it as much as I would have. Yes, I am talking to you dear RSBFS reader. This bike has only 26000 km and is on sale in Switzerland for the equivalent of about 8600 $ which I think is a great price for the conditions of this Bi.Mo.Ta. !
Hoping to help the community and the seller as well, I attach below here the link to the private ad:
