SELLER
Welcome to the what’s most likely the earliest Yamaha FZR1000 in the wild……….in the world.
I’ve owned this pre production numbers matching 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 vin ending in 000001 since 31st Oct 2016 when I won it at an auction in Emerald City Saskatchewan Canada where it had been submitted by the Saskatchewan Polytechnic formerly known as Saskatchewan institute of applied science and technology Wascana Campus, it was one of several training aid preproduction bikes they had for sale at the auction, but the only ‘poster’ bike. While researching the bike and trying to figure out how 000001 ended up where it did , accident or design I found an alumni that ended up very high in Yamaha, however I haven’t been able to contact the person for confirmation.
The most sympathetic of sympathetic resurrections was completed, The RHS switch, ignition switch, coils, fuel pump where replaced (old parts kept). Two wiring blocks needed to be replaced, the downstream ignition block under the tank, and the main red one under the LHS side cover,( the usual culprits). The bike was brought up to ‘gentle riding’ spec. I rode it once for 20 minutes or so https://youtu.be/07To5ckCjTA?si=9GMRGCKWfXAV8ksc it’s been in my collection ever since.
There are many little things on this bike that were changed for the mass production run. Some of the differences are fairing frame, air intake’s, speedo, wiring loom, bar end weights, the lower side panels, side covers and rear seat cowl are all slightly different in regards to how they clip together and no doubt other little changes.
I believe this bike to be original excluding consumables, parts already mentioned and the lower centre fairing. ‘Dressed’ pictures taken 21st April 2025, short video taken on same day of the bike being run up through the gears, naked pictures taken summer 2025, long video taken years but only a few kms ago. Distance traveled is in kms.
Condition. The bike runs and stops, all electrics work as they should, however, the would need to be some reconditioning if it where to be used in anger, tyres, hoses etc etc are very old. Please pay attention to pictures 12 to 19 that show damage to the plastics. Some of the hardware has been touched by the ‘well intentioned’, mostly engine cover hardware in the course of its job as a training aid, which would seem judging by the molestation was mainly carb work, clutch work and valve work.
Registration, 000001 is registered in BC and has a normal registration (clear title) and is currently enrolled in the collector vehicle program. We know this shouldn’t happen with pre production vehicles, how did this come about, I believe it’s as simple as this, in BC theres 12% tax on used vehicles, a cash cow for our potless province ……….that and having a long history of a odd vehicle addiction with the local insurance office that ran to a couple of pages of ‘mantiques’. Comes with paper trail showing continuous ownership.
Shipping; included in the winning sale, the bike crated to international shipping standards and delivered to a shipper of your choice in Vancouver British Columbia, if you don’t have one I would recommend Locher Evers International for any ongoing shipping as they’ve never failed me. Crate made from 6 sheets of 3/4” ply cut to hug the bike with a two sheet canter levered base for added wall strength.
Bidders with a feedback count of less than five please contact me prior to bidding to prevent bids being cancelled, thank you.
$1000 payable within 24hrs, balance to be arranged.
Please contact me with any questions.
Happy bidding.

If this really is VIN 000001, this 1987 Yamaha FZR1000 isn’t just early, it’s essentially the starting line. Pre-production quirks, a life as a training aid, and a careful revival only add to the intrigue. It’s less about riding hard and more about owning a fascinating piece of Yamaha history that somehow slipped into the wild.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!

Very cool bike but a lot of damage to the plastics
Certainly not mint, but very interesting bike. As I’m a local, I’d even more interested in the history of this one.
