In the late 80s and early 90s, the very best road-going sportbikes were generally 750cc class machines, due to production-based racing class regulations, while 1000cc machines were ballistically fast, but generally heavy. Into the performance void between the two stepped the Honda CBR900RR, a lightweight chassis with a near liter-class engine that provided electrifying performance in a road-focused sportbike. The brainchild of Tadao Baba, the new bike was designed outside any official racing class and therefore outside any existing rules. His genius was to take a 600cc chassis and fit it with an enlarged 750cc engine featuring an unusually long [for a motorcycle] stroke that gave it excellent midrange torque while keeping the engine’s external dimensions compact. Displacement for the original CBR900RR was 893cc producing 111hp, while the updated 1999 model featured here displaced 919cc and produced a claimed 130hp. That may not seem like much by today’s standards, but in a bike that weighed 457lbs full of fuel and oil, just a few pounds more than a contemporary CBR600, it meant straight-line speed to rival 1000cc machines and handling on par with the aforementioned 600s. In short, it was a revelation, and left the other Japanese manufacturers scrambling to catch up.

1999 Honda CBR900RR – Clean Title – Excellent Survivor – Tasteful Upgrades – OEM Parts Included
Up for sale is my 1999 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade. This is one of the final and most desirable years of the early 900RR generation. The bike is in excellent survivor condition with a clean Pennsylvania title in my name. It runs strong, shifts smoothly, and presents extremely well for a 25-year-old machine. This CBR900RR has several high-quality upgrades that improve both the look and performance while still keeping the classic Fireblade style. I’ve also included a full set of OEM parts so the next owner can return it to stock if desired.
Upgrades / Accessories
- High-quality steering stabilizer
- Carbon fiber front fender
- Corbin rider + passenger seats
- D&D exhaust
- Smoked aftermarket windscreen
- Additional tasteful small touches throughout
OEM Parts Included
All original parts included with the sale
OEM front fender
OEM front and rear seats
OEM passenger pegs
This makes the bike perfect for either:
- a collector who wants it stock
- a rider who likes the upgraded look
Values of Tadao Baba’s magnum opus are certainly on the rise but, while pristine examples of the Honda CBR900RR have certainly sold for the listed asking price, I think this seller is a bit ahead of the curve here. It’s a nice, clean, seemingly well-maintained example, although I don’t think the photos are doing the bike any favors: the detail shots are very nice, but the lighting of the wide shots just isn’t flattering. The first-generation bikes really seem to command the highest prices, and while all the included OEM parts are certainly very nice to have, the miles aren’t museum-piece low. I think there are probably nicer, more original examples out there at this price point.

Agreed on price, the first-gen unmolested examples are the ones getting stupid money. And not to dump on the seller, but a D&D pipe being classified as ‘tasteful’ is a stretch.
This bike sold on BaT last month for $4100. Flipper may make a couple thousand, but nothing close to $15k,
