Today’s 2003 Honda RVT1000R, also known as the RC51, represents an unusual moment for Honda, one where they threw up their hands and just went with the flow. For a company that was so stubborn they designed an insane eight valve per cylinder V4, just so they didn’t have to follow convention and build a two-stroke for Grand Prix racing, this was a watershed moment. Prior to the RC51, Honda had campaigned V4s in World Superbike racing that were limited by rules to 750cc, compared to the v-twin Ducatis that were allowed an additional 250cc of displacement. Displeased by what they felt was an unfair advantage, Honda built a 999cc 90° v-twin with gear-driven cams to follow the same rules as their rivals at Ducati. Honda’s new superbike was successful and won the WSBK championship in 2000 and then again in 2002. After which the company, having seemingly proven their point to the world, withdrew official support for the machine in World Superbike racing.

I’ve only taken this bike out 4-5 times in the last 2 years. I’m getting old and my knees and back do not like being on this bike for long. That being said it’s super clean, well maintained and runs perfectly

Here is a list of factory and aftermarket parts on it:

I hate to sell it because this bike is becoming rare and more expensive every day.
Bidding is up to just $3,100 at the time of writing. That’s very low for an already undervalued bike. Possibly the lack of interest is a result of all of the modifications that have gone into this example, although they appear to be of high quality and should improve the riding experience. Looks may be subjective, but those classic Erion Racing exhaust cans are a worthy upgrade! These are obviously nowhere near as rare or as valuable as the storied RC30 and RC45. The upside is that getting parts for one, or getting it serviced should be much easier.
