Cure For The Winter Time Blues: 2008 Bimota DB5R
You know it has been a long winter in the ole USA when a guy stuck in Georgia (me) is sick of winter. Nothing can brighten a gloomy February day though than a red, white and green Bimota. Add some carbon fiber, Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes and a factory option Zard exhaust and you will be praying for a 75 degree Spring day.
I don’t think I need to write another thing, this photo pretty much sums up the DB5R or most any Bimota for that matter: outside the box engineering, ahead of the curve lines/looks and like a chic with shoes, more carbon fiber than you need.
A little on the bike, most of the info was cut and past press material:
The factory option Zard pipes are installed and the stock silencers are included in the sale.
I have carefully broken in the bike, ALWAYS observing the rev limits and varying the rpms within the range on the highwway. Ask my mechanic, I won’t let anyone else ride the bike during that period so the break-in is perfect. You get to skip most of that as higher revs and full throttle can now be applied.
As is the case with most Bimota’s this one has been looked at more than ridden. It shows just over a 1000 miles. You will be the first to scratch it!
I”m into close ups today. I know it gets over used but these things really are art and I do understand how people buy them and end up putting them in their house. Like any good piece of art though it isn’t cheap. The bidding is starting at $20,500 with a reserve of course. MSRP was almost $37,000 back in 08. Is somewhere in the high $20’s a fair price?
.
The rest of the good stuff.

I have seen these new in the dealerships for just over 20K, although both were older than ’08 models. Still, this is a really nice bike, great ergonomics and that wonderful, torquey dual-spark lump. Nice find!
Wow wow wow. The prettiest bike of the modern era? What I wouldn’t do to have it.
starting a new contest! most badass swingarm of all time!
Bimota might have a few entries in that contest. I’d nominate the RGV250 gull arm.
I think in a couple years these are going to be the Bimotas to get.
A DB5R is definitely on my bucket list. I would vote the Tesi 3D for prettiest swingarm. That might be cheating since it has two of them, but I stand by my vote!
