The Neiman Marcus Edition Ducati 748L is one of the more rare Ducatis you will see on these pages. Offered for one Christmas season only and the only model painted in the limited edition silver color, the 748L was a rare machine – it just wasn’t all that special. Essentially a stock 748 with custom paint and the obiquitous Ducati “limited edition” tag on the headstock, this run of bike was limited to just 100 units.
The Neiman Marcus connection does not really add much to the standard 748 package. Sure, there was some initial buzz about owning one of the few NM bikes in silver, but otherwise you are looking at a stock baby Superbike. That is not a bad thing, as the 748 has been widely praised for its handling when the going gets twisty.
From the seller:
Up for sale is a truly very rare Limited Edition Collectible Ducati 748L that only 100 of were ever produced in 1998 and sold exclusively through the Neiman Marcus Catalog. These bikes came from the factory with the Mercury Metallic Silver paint with carbon fiber front fender and chain guard. The body is the same as the 996 model. Now is your chance to own a piece of classic Ducati history. This one is number 24 of 100. These models are hard to find and almost never come up for sale and most are modified. This example is in mint condition with only 5,700 miles. Looks and rides like new. Adult ridden, never abused, no wheelies, always garaged. No accidents, never been down, no paint work. The bike is 100% in original condition.
No modifications whatsoever. Unmolested. The bike is as it left the factory. The only things that are not original on the bike are the fluids, tires and battery. Even the brake pads are original. Mechanically runs perfect no issues at all. Strong engine and transmission. Fresh oil change with correct synthetic oil. One small paint chip in the front and a very light hardly noticeable scuff mark on the tank. I have the original tool bag with all the tools, all books and manuals and the keys.
With low miles and an original, stock appearance, this 748L might be what you are looking for if you want something slightly different. This auction has a BIN of $7,500 and the seller is willing to consider offers. Located in Maryland, this limited edition, unique 748 is looking for a new home. Do you have room in your garage? Nice write up Mike; You’ve said it perfectly.
Not to be a troll or intentionally cruel, but this bike is not ‘100% in original condition. No modifications whatsoever. Unmolested. The bike is as it left the factory.’ The signal lenses have been changed to clear, the rear signals are nowhere to be seen, the pillion pegs have been removed, and there’s an awful Corse decal on the speedometer. Looks like the fuel sensor is throwing an error too, as there’s electrician’s tape covering the indicator on the cluster.
Decent bike, but if the owner missed these points I wonder what else is misrepresented?
I have number 062 in my garage, and I’m quite passionate about keeping it original. I have an aftermarket exhaust and heli bars, but all original parts are stored in a box.
