The Terblanche design era created a Ducati lineup unlike any other. Sharper than the Tamburini 748/916/996/998 model language of the previous generations, the 749/999 bikes were sometimes referenced as the ugly Ducs. The stacked headlight design is very polarizing to many, but the follow on years have been good to the basic look. These bikes continue to stand out from the crowd. Maybe Pierre Terblanche DID know what he was doing (he did design the freaking awesome Supermono after all!).
2006 Ducati 749R for sale on eBay
This 749R has lived what appears to be a very pampered life. Residing indoors as part of the family, this uber-spec “little” superbike has fewer than 1,500 miles on the partly analog, partly digital clocks. That is some serious restraint. More like it sounds as if someone was physically restrained. How can you have something that beautiful and not enjoy the heck out of it??! Ah well, to each his own.

yep…butt ugly.
He’ll be lucky to get a single bid if that’s the starting price. Waaaaaay too high.
That’s all the money and then some.
Any chance of the blonde on the computer turning around? 😉
Nice bike, but I agree seems priced a little high…
I had a 2004 model that had the full carbon bodywork – in 2005 Ducati did away with carbon bodywork. The rearsets on this bike don’t look stock. The stock exhaust sounds very mellow. There was popular but expensive upgrade through Termi and LeoVince – and with a PC, it did transform the engine – but does fry the body work in the belly pan area.
But it did have the best suspension components (Ohlins all around) with adjustable steering offset (no other Ducati had this) built-in and the rear suspension rocker-setup is one of a kind (flatter profile for track use)
Goodluck with the sale.

No love here for this Ducati, or it’s asking price!
I just CANNOT get past the looks, this bike fell out of the ugly tree and hit EVERY branch on the way down.
The 749R is simply beautiful, easily one of the most boldly visceral designs ever. God, I want one.
I would not buy this bike for its looks. Having owned an 851, 750/907, 996 (base, R, SPS) – I would rate the 749R last in the looks dept. This topic has been debated and beaten to death. I was hoping it would grow on me – but did not happen. In any case, I feel this is a special bike among the 749/999 family like the Fila/Xerox liveries of 999R.
The thing’s got to have awesome handling- right? The 748 sure did: truly great front end feel, instantly trustworthy and “right”.
If this bike doesn’t at least equal that, there’s no real point then, is there?
ksanjeev, I was hoping time would do the same thing with me, but it hasn’t, regardless of how good this is to ride, eventually you’d have to get off it and look at it. From other comments it’s amazing just how polarized feelings are about this bike still.
A little experiment on the 749R polarising conundrum: put your hand up if you are American. I am not American.
I am not American.
