Update 11.10.2012: This plated VJ22 is back on eBay with about an hour to go. One bid of $4500 appears to be the winning bid as well. Last chance for what may be the cheapest plated VJ22 available. Links updated. -dc
Back to our regularly scheduled program of two strokes and gray-market smoke. Today’s bike is a RGV250 VJ22 model with one of the most rare and desirable mods possible: a California title. Even from my office high atop the RSBFS building I can hear the cheering from the Golden State devotees.
Sharp eyed readers will note that this bike is not stock. In fact, we are not really certain what it is. The seller is not even certain of the year, although the VIN is listed as: VJ22B102068. Anyone know the tricks to deciphering a non-17 digit VIN? No listing of modifications (if any), and the seller has noted a potential tranny defect. That’s all we know.
From the seller:
Suzuki RGV 250 CA titled current tags.
I not sure the year but you can google by vin to find out production date if required.
20807 km ~ 12928 miles.
New battery, Good over all condition.
Factory oil injection in place.
Engine runs strong. All lights working,
Only issue is the second gear wants to pop out of gear if rev to high rpm.
If you take it easy in second or shift to third it’s fine.
Here is a video supplied by the seller of this very bike. The video does a good job of walking around the machine in question. No question this bike sounds good, and I note (most importantly) the current CA plates!
While this bike may not be the well-loved museum piece that some collectors seek, this does appear to be a rider with a title – something most of us want in a bike. The great news is that the bike is priced a lot closer inline with expectations (unlike many of the smokers we tend to come across): the current bid is only $1,881 with reserve in place, and the BIN is set at a reasonable $5,500. For a CA titled bike, that is a relative bargain. Click the link to jump over to the auction, and good luck California riders!

That awful paint job devalues the bike by the cost of an accurate and professional stock paint and graphics refinish. In other words, sadly, by a lot.
also the transmission is shot and probably the whole cassette needs to be replaced
Would love to have this being titled in CA. The price isn’t stupid and I can source new gears and fix it easily for a reasonable price. Unfortunately I have no money.
