What you are looking at is one of the lowest mileage, most original CBX SuperSport you might find left around. And while a CBX is a relatively rare bird to begin with, finding one in such original condition really makes it stand out. With tons of chrome (nearly literally, as a CBX SS weighs in at 600+ lbs dry) and miles of plastic bodywork and bags, it must be pretty hard NOT to scratch, dent, scuff or otherwise harm something on this bike – even when it is sitting still!
From a mechanical perspective, the CBX is not the first in-line six cylinder production motorcycle. You can credit the Italians over at Benelli for that honor. What Honda did was turn their Engineering muscle to the task, and created a surprisingly narrow engine out of six pots by relocating everything they could behind the motor. This idea of mass centralization is taken to extreme levels by MotoGP teams today, but Honda was already well on their way with the CB-series of in-lines fours and the CBX line.
From the seller:
Up for sale, is a VERY RARE ALL ORGINAL 1982 HONDA CBX, in near showroom condition.Collectors look no further! Many people have been interested in this bike as a regular/daily rider. We believe, and so do several other people who have looked at this bike in person, that it is entirely to nice to be a regular rider, but given its excellent condition and low miles, would be best suited as a collectors piece. It has not been restored, rebuilt, or overhauled, this bike is as close as you can get one to how they left the factory. If you want an original bike, this is the one that you want to bid on! It even has the original tires (see in pictures), which are in good condition! The seat (in excellent condition), exhaust (also factory original (6 into 2)/(3 into 1)), brakes, instruments and everything are also all original. You won’t find a finer example of one of these bikes around than this one. Pearl White, runs great, with original documentation. This bike has been stored in a climate controlled facility under a cover in West Texas (dry climate). It had been this same area since it was new.
This Bike has 1999 original miles, and is stored in a climate control facility under a cover, and is started and run just regularly enough to keep everything working and all the internals lubricated. This is a collector’s show quality bike. We have original documentation from the first owner of when the bike was purchased new. Original Bill of Sale and sales agreement from the dealership, copy of the first title of the bike, original owners manual, and the Honda Riding Tips and Practice guide from 1982. With all this documentation, this bike is ideal for a serious collector or museum.
From the seller:
It is the Pearl White, with Blue stripes, all of the original decals, has the factory side cases, faring, and windshield. Since this is a ’82 year model, it has the PRO-LINK suspension in the rear.It is in excellent mechanical condition, everything works well, it starts easy, idles smooth and easy with no missing, runs great, and sounds great! The carbs are in good working order, and are set up correctly.
Cosmetically the bike is also in excellent condition, with no dings, and only a very few small scratches (which can be seen in the pictures), and a small section of the stripe missing on the top of the gas tank (bought it like this years ago). The bike has spent its life in a dry climate since new (West Texas, where there is rarely any moisture), and has always been garaged.
In all the years, I have not seen a finer example of one of these bikes than this one, and have looked at and owned many. Don’t want to let it go, but don’t have the space or the time for it anymore. This bike would be well suited for a collector to add to their collection.
CBX prices have been all over the map as of late. But as with all collector bikes, better examples bring better prices. This particular bike looks to be a case of go big or go home. Already over the $6k mark with reserve in place and several days left, this could set the bar for the rest of the year on these big machines. Click the link to jump over to the auction. As a former CBX owner (79 models “naked”) I would say this bike narrowly escapes to be shunned accepted as a Sportbike . After this next level up was a Goldwing ! However with its silky six inline and sexy exhaust note droning from it , you could be forgiven to think a Ferrari had just whizzed past you . My friend Mike took one of these exact models and turned it into a Streetfighter with circa 2005 GSXR USD forks and a swing-arm with all the brakes & wheels, etc + a sweet sounding DG 6-1 pipe . A few mounting point adjustments & “Bobs’ yer uncle !” went from “ol-man mobile” to “wheelie-mobile ” !
