Update 6.16.2013: Back on eBay after we first saw it in April. Price is down $3k with a buy-it-now of $22k. One bid of $15k but reserve is still in place. Just a few hours to go but could be a great Father’s Day gift 😉 Links updated. -dc
We don’t get the chance to post many 996R’s here in the U.S. This example has less than 2000 miles and wears a starting bid (not buy-it-now) of $25k and 0 bids. Adam pointed this auction out to us on Facebook and there is some discussion on how much this actually might be worth and how a lower opening bid might have helped the sale, especially with a potential overseas bidder. Being 1 of 500 and spread all over the world, when will the next opportunity come up?

2001 Ducati 996R For Sale on eBay
From the seller:
This motorcycle has been well cared for, maintained, never raced and in a collection since new. If you are reading this, you know what this bike is. For me, it is the ultimate 916 derived model and truly an incredible machine.
There are a few tiny scratches in the fairing from storage that cannot be photographed and I expect can be buffed out. The t1tle is in hand and in my name.
Someone may be able to make a deal with this guy. However, it seems like he is not in a hurry to sell because it is the 3rd or 4th time I have seen it on eBay in the past year or so.
Wonder why the aftermarket-looking clutch? Looks like the clutch is red…aftermarket?
Re: clutch. Just a common dress-up.
First off, can we please stop using the phrase “If you are reading this, you know what this bike is.” Some people don’t, and you might want to appeal to those people. At the same time, if you say that, and you then go on to tell me all about the item I know so much about, and you’re wrong? Well, now I have to question other parts of your listing as well. I’ll step off the soap-box now.
As Adam said, the clutch pressure plate is just dress up. A few companies make them, they look prettier, and depending on whether the seller went with a slipper clutch (if I recall the 996R’s didn’t come with a slipper, but I could be mistaken), it could be a nice addition.
As for the price, 25 is steep. The 996R is a nice bike, and it’s rare, but it’s not that special yet. Give it 10 years, like the 851 SP3’s, and we’ll talk, but right now too much.
Ben, you should click through and read the rest of his description. It’s either written by someone else or pasted in later, but there is a thorough breakdown of the 996R model. It’s so long that I questioned whether or not to duplicate here.

Hey Dan, I read through it. It wasn’t directed at RSBFS, just at sellers who use the phrase. It seems like the lazy man’s look at me statement. He does have some good info.
Hello,
How do I contact you?
I’m a Ducati owner (2000 996SPS, 1995 900SS SP, 1993 Superlight and 2001 996 BIP) in Toronto, Ontario Canada. I’m in the Czech Republic 6 months out of the year – thus my unique email address.
If the bike has not been sold, please let me know how I can get a hold of you to discuss a possible sale.
I’m currently inToronto until the end of the month – if the bike is as advertised, I will make the trip down. I’m a cash buyer and serious about this transaction.
Regards
Mike
