The 2000 R1 is the 5JJ, the second-generation update to what many consider the bike that rewrote the superbike rulebook. Yamaha made over 150 modifications for the 5JJ, refining carb settings, reducing friction losses, improving the gearbox, and shedding 2kg. They also stiffened the chassis castings and updated the bodywork. It’s the sweet spot of the carbureted first-gen R1 lineage, before Yamaha went fuel injection in 2002 and changed the character of the bike. Manor Park ClassicsManor Park Classics
This one sat for over a decade, which for a collector is often the best possible news. It wasn’t being flogged. Then the seller went through it completely with correct OEM parts. Four new carburetors, new stator, rectifier, waterpump, fuel pump, fuel lines, Caswell-lined tank, head surfaced, valves adjusted, all new gaskets sealed with Yamabond. Collectors like the long sit. Riders like the fresh OEM rebuild. This one covers both bases.
The result is a 2000 R1 with 1,000 miles on a thorough, correct rebuild. OEM parts for a 25-year-old Yamaha aren’t cheap, and four carbs alone will run you. Whoever buys this is almost certainly getting a machine that cost more to restore than the asking price.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
