This 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR is said to have been delivered new to Frieze Harley-Davidson of O’Fallon, Illinois, and subsequently purchased by an employee of the dealership. The bike was then placed on display until 2025, when it was acquired by the seller with 37 miles on its odometer. The 998cc Ironhead V-Twin is paired with a four-speed transmission, and further equipment includes cast alloy wheels, triple disc brakes, an electric starter, a quarter fairing, a drag-style handlebar, a solo seat, rear-set foot controls, and a molded tail section. This XLCR is now offered with a clean Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.

We have seen a few XLCR Cafe Racers here at Rare, and this one has 37 miles!!!!
Mike shared the irony of this bike with Rare back in 2010 when he posted two for sale. Apparently when these came out in the 70’s, sportbike enthusiasts were not into Harleys and the Harley crowd was not into sport. So it tanked. This disaster however created a perfect storm for collectibles and now they sell for high dollar. Who could have predicted that?
Well, H-D produced an estimated 3,123 units during a limited, 2-year run. Back in 2010 the zero mile H-D had a BIN of $27,500 and the XLCR with 5,286 miles had a BIN of $15,000. Here we are, 15 years later….
Is 37 miles broken in enough to feel that you can ride this bike around and show it off, while still keeping the miles low enough to be collectible? What would you do?
