I purchased this Ducati in August of 2013 from Robert Braund who had recently finished restoring the bike to it’s original race specifications. He purchased the bike in July of 2010 from the original owner Lewis G Harruff in Portland, Oregon.
Mr. Harruff purchased the bike from Portland Motorcycle Company on 08-08-78 for the sum of $3,395.00. He purchased it in the crate for this amount. Accompanied with the sale to Mr. Braund is the original bill of sale and the original manufactures statement of origin from Berliner Motor Corporation.
Mr. Harruff successfully raced in B.O.T.T. Seasons in ‘82-‘83. The bike still retains it’s original AMA frame tag as well as a written history on the bike from Mr. Harruff. Along with race results from the ‘82-‘83 seasons where he raced against the likes of James Adamo and tied in 14th place with Erik Buell. Lots of great race history with this bike and some cool photos as well.
When I purchased the bike from Robert Braund it was in its race trim. Along with the bike were all the original parts wrapped up in newspaper from the early 1980’s.
These parts included the original Conti exhaust, gauges with the odometer showing 500 miles, all switch gear, wire harness, tool kit, ignition, lights and etc. all the parts that were removed as the bike was prepped for racing. Mr. Braund rebuilt the motor with Amola cams, Jeff Branton bottom end and new pistons. The bike started on the second kick. I was looking for a bike in street trim so I commissioned Mr. Braund to return it to street trim utilizing all the original parts. That was completed in 2015. It sat in my collection for a number of years, starting it periodically. Unfortunately it developed paint issues that could not be remedied. I decided to take the bike to one of my restorers. DK Design in San Francisco at which point we discussed the unique history of this bike and decided to put in the extra effort to take it to the next level. Short of the drive train the bike was disassembled and prepped for refinishing.
All the parts were carefully bagged, tagged and stored. The frame, body work and suspension components are prepped for final paint. Hubs are vapor blasted, etc. all parts are included as well as the original race parts.
Too many projects and health issues have dictated the need to move on and let someone else take over this project.
It is down to paint and reassembly. I have all documentation in hand as well as 150 photographs of all parts and the bike prior to disassembly. Carefully packed now and easily palletised for shipping.
Asking $25,000

This bike is looking for the right person. It’s a cool project that is not yet 100% complete, but as you can see from the seller’s description, much has been done. It’s down to the paint and reassembly. The bike has a racing history and you have all the original parts. Cool photos and documentation, oh my!
More photos are on the ebay listing so check it out.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
