Most American motorcycling enthusiasts have probably never heard of the Derbi GPR50 Malossi Replica. But if you’re a bit… older, and into Grand Prix racing, you’ll be familiar with this Spanish company with deep roots in racing history and a number of World Championships in the 50, 80, and 125cc classes. The GPR or “Grand Prix Replica” was the company’s first fully-faired roadbike and, in spite of the tiny displacement, featured plenty of tasty tech for new riders, including a six-speed gearbox, aluminum twin-spar frame, 17″ wheels, upside-down forks, and oil-injection for the little two-stroke. There is a huge void under the “gas tank” that can be used for [theoretically] storing groceries or a helmet, and the actual fuel cell is centrally-mounted, with access under the locking pillion seat. A stock GPR50 is good for about 6whp and 65mph, although there are plenty of go-fast bits and big-bore kits out there to make this little machine something of a back-road terror, assuming your roads are tight enough…
This 2003 Derbi GPR 50 is an original gem that the owner has cherished for the past three years.m. With only 20 miles on the odometer, is not regularly riddenVehicle Details
2003 Derbi Gpr 50 with only 20 original miles on it. Bike is in my personal collection of 2 stroke full size sport bikes. Like new, stored in climate controlled garage. Down sizing my collection.
Designed as an entry-level machine for European riders, this Derbi GPR50 is obviously pretty underpowered for most American roads and our one-size-fits-all licensing system. But these do show up from time to time for sale here, and generally don’t seem to go for very much money. With just 20 miles on the odometer, this one might need a bit of work to get it road-worthy, but performance parts seem readily available and affordable. Just slot in a 75 or 80cc big-bore kit for 10 whole horsepower, and go tear up your local go-kart track.
