Staid and steady BMW sought to shed their stodgy image by featuring their new R1100S in a one-make pro-race series. Part race of champions, part senior legends tour, the the BMW Boxer Cup produced some remarkable racing as a support series for major events (such as GP racing events). With skilled and experienced pilots aboard identical motorcycles, competition was close and fierce; full of the grinding of cylinder heads and madman feats of late braking. If you can find any of these older races on the GoogleTube they are well worth a watch. The outcome of these races was a slow change of image for BMW, and was celebrated by the R1100S Boxer Cup Replika.

Primarily consisting of paint and graphics, the base of the Boxer Cup bike is the standard R1100S. Subtle changes were made fitting of the track-day nature of the machine, including upgraded Ohlins suspension, braking improvements courtesy of braided lines, and Laser under-the-seat exhaust. Handling was improved by raising the rear of the bike to quicken steering and increase ground clearance. As the cylinder heads are typically the first hard parts to touch down during spirited riding, carbon fiber valve covers and special cylinder head sliders were fitted. The belly pan is race spec and designed to hold oil should the engine decide to shed itself of its life blood. This was all topped off by Randy Mamola’s signature on the fairing, making the bike look like it is ready to high side while sitting on the side stand. There is a reportedly different engine management chip installed after the first dealer service, but there is no power difference claimed for this model.

From the seller:
This is an incredible 2003 BMW R1100S BoxerCup Replica Motorcycle !!!!!
This 2003 BMW R1100S BoxerCup Replica Motorcycle is LIKE NEW !!!!

THE HISTORY
The 2003 R1100S BoxerCup Replica Motorcycle has only 2,343 miles on it… that’s nothing for a BMW !!! The VIN is WB10432A93ZB52967. It was built in October 2002. We are proud to offer this R1100S BoxerCup Replica Motorcycle for sale here on eBay.

THE CONDITION
The overall exterior condition of the motorcycle is like new. The paint is extremely deep and very glossy. The seating shows no wear. The panels are in good shape. The motorcycle starts right up and rides fine. The Metzler tires on this BMW have a ton of tread life left. This motorcycle has a few extra carbon fiber addons. The motorcycle just had a complete service and a new battery installed. The pitbull stand, original model, and presentation kit with COA are all included.

Today’s example is a 2003 model (these were 2003 – 2005 models), has very low miles and looks to be about as perfect as you could hope. It also appears to come with all of the extra accoutrements, such as the scale model and certificate of authenticity. That is a real plus for the collector. This looks to be a No Reserve auction, which could be a bonus depending on where the interest falls. With bidding slowly climbing over the $5k mark at time of writing and a fair few number of watchers, it could be fun to see where this one goes. Check out all of the details on this gorgeous bike here, and Good Luck!!

In This Corner: 2004 BMW R 1100 S Boxer Cup Replika #63/300

A short lived model (2003-2005), the BMW Boxer Cup Replika was a celebration of the one-make, VIP racer series that BMW ran with professional racers. Based on the R1100S, the Boxer Cup model can be distinguished primarily via graphics – although there were some subtle changes from the standard model, including an underseat Laser exhaust system, upgraded Ohlins suspension, and some carbon fiber farkles to spice up the image. To aid in cornering clearance, suspension geometry was modified and the rear of the bike was raised. This created some issues with inseam-challenged riders around town, but for track day enthusiasts it was just the ticket – as was the oil-catcher built into the belly pan.

BMW did not claim any additional power from the R1100S 4-valve motor – despite the exhaust and a dealer-installed fuel management chip. However the Replika did enjoy a full factory warranty, which was a plus. The fact that Randy Mamola’s signature was on the fairing practically threatened a high-side while still on the side stand, but star power never hurts when one is trying to make a name. Each Boxer Cup bike was bestowed with a unique number (just like Ducati limited edition machines), which should theoretically make them more rare and therefore more valuable than a more pedestrian 1100S counterpart.

Prices for Boxer Cup Replikas have been on the rise, but like everything else, condition and mileage will tell the story. The MSRP for these models was nearly $14k when new, but after a dip in the used bike market these have begun to rebound. We’ve seen asks at – and above – the ten grand mark for extremely low mileage examples. Today’s specimen wears a price tag of $7,500 or best offer, although there are not a lot of details from the seller. The pricing is not bad considering the mere 1,365 miles being shown on the clock in the photos. And speaking of photos, the pics show a pretty well-represented motorcycle, ready for the next BMW fan to hoon. Check out all of the details here, and Good Luck!!

Pugilist: 2003 BMW Boxer Cup

I know there are some RSBFS faithful out there that refuse to believe a BMW can be sporty OR rare. I beg to differ. As such, I offer you this 2003 Boxer Cup machine, created by BMW to capitalize on what was essentially a one-make Battle Of The Twins series. As #172 in a 200-bike limited production, it is justifiably rare – even if this is really an upscale version of the R1100S model. As for the sporting equation, I rely on the likes of Reg Pridmore, Randy Mamola, and Kevin Schwantz to comment; all have been competitors on BMW twins. Sure, at age 77 Reg could probably beat all of us on track even if he were riding a motorized skateboard, but each of these professional riders has shown the possible performance attainable from the bikes out of Bavaria.

With carbon fiber fender and mudguard, a full belly pan, carbon valve covers with cylinder head pucks, twin under-seat exhaust, Ohlins suspension on both ends and a special setup that raises the rear of the bike to aid in cornering clearance, the Replika machine is as sporty as you could get in the BMW world during this time. Evoking the 5 year racing series was a marketing coup for BMW, and with model-specific graphics (including Mamola’s replicated signature on the fairing) this BMW promises to be something different.

From the seller:
Thank you for viewing my favorite moto: 2003 BMW R1100S Boxer Cup Replika
This rare bike is amazing to ride! Comfortable, smooth, fast, and people love the timeless design. If you have made it this far into my listing, then I don’t need to write 10 pages explaining the Boxer Cup racing series and the limited production of very rare commemorative Bimmers that were sold around the world. Specifically, this moto is a great example of a well-preserved and maintained R1100S BCR that has always been adult ridden, never dropped or even leaned on, garage-kept, and will always be a fan favorite to every type of rider.

More from the seller:
I purchased this from a private owner in spring of 2016, had it enclosed shipped from Florida, and loved every second of riding it. Sadly, I am moving and need to downsize for the time being. The spark plugs, all fluids, and tires were replaced at 7,300 miles (shortly before I purchased it). This bike is nearly spotless: I’d rate the condition of it around a 9.3/10 with only stress cracks on the windscreen, a few very minor scratches on the gas tank, seat cover, and a few chips on the lower front of the bellypan. I have pampered this moto for 3,000 miles, and most of them are highway from weekend adventures. The rear tire is starting to show a little wear, but should easily perform for another 2,500-3,000 miles before replacing.

Sure, it was not until the S1000RR and piles of money that BMW finally met the competition head on in World Super Bike – but the Boxer Cup paved the way. This example is very, very clean. Miles are certainly low for what we all know to be a dead reliable lump of a motor, and unlike some of the high-strung Italian supermodels you can ride this one through some pretty decently sized service intervals. It’s everything you would expect from a BMW twin, with a little extra cachet, performance and exclusivity. Check it out here for all of the details and some great photos. Then jump back into the comments section and share your thoughts on the Boxer Cup – genuinely good race series, or mad marketing ploy von Deutschland?
