Another bike from Honda that has only recently found its audience here in the US was the simple-in-concept but extremely well-executed Honda CB-1 NC27. These are rare here for a simple reason: not many were sold. America at the time was sportbike-crazy and a small-displacement, relatively expensive naked bike wasn’t really on the radar of many riders. 400s are typically considered to be the most basic of transportation in many markets, commuters or entry-level sporting machines for new riders. But the specifications for the CB-1 are anything but basic, and it was powered by a 16-valve inline four displacing 399cc with gear-driven overhead cams and a six-speed gearbox from the equally high-spec CBR400. The CB-1 used a tubular steel frame using the engine as a stressed-member instead of the CBR’s lighter, more sophisticated aluminum beam unit, and had only a single disc brake up front, instead of the CBR’s pair of stoppers, but it was lightweight and had excellent handling.

The 1990 Honda CB-1 (400cc four cylinder inline) Motorcycle is a naked bike carrying the model code NC27. The engine is liquid cooled with gear driven camshafts. The bike has been garaged since new and is in great condition and ready to ride. The factory paint and tank are in beautiful condition with no dents. The bike is easy to handle for beginner and advanced riders. The engine runs and sounds fantastic when accelerating.
The Honda CB-1 maybe isn’t the most exotic, hard-core sporting machine out there, but is very rare here in the US, has achieved cult-bike status, is fun to ride, reliable, and finding parts to keep one running shouldn’t prove to be an impossible task. The perfect machine for a newbie or an experienced rider, assuming outright straight-line speed isn’t your priority. At the $3,200 asking price, this one seems like an absolute steal.

Looks too good to be true. The engine covers I have never seen in such good condition. The chrome one on the right I’ve not seen so good a presentation on one in the wild since the 90s. This has a center stand, awesome! Seller has never sold anything. Hmmm.
Flaws: the switchgear on the left looks massively discolored. Not a deal breaker but incosistant with the other shockingly good condition of everything else.
The pipe is not right. They were not short like this, though it oddly looks stock with that matte finish. I can’t sort this out. Red flag. These pipes are unobtainium. There is missing story on this..
I almost included a comment on the exhaust. The end-cap looks… off, but the black finish and general style appears to be stock. Some questions, but at that price…
Not familiar with this model but….
Whenever possible, I check out the condition of the bike owner’s property. In this case, everything I see looks very well maintained. I think he/she pays attention to detail and has kept the bike in immaculate condition. They did say it was garaged since new.
