RSBFS is coming to Vegas for the Mecum auction in January!
After the $52k close on this 1993 Honda CBR900RR on Bring A Trailer, it got me wondering what kind of sky high close prices we’d see at Mecum next month. In the past several years there have been some eye-watering results there as well, and with the sharp increase in values this year, I expect we’ll see even more fireworks!
Who else is going? What do you have entered in the auction? What lots did we miss that we should keeping an eye on while there?

You did gods work putting this post together! Thank you!
Loving that Laverda. Always been interested in those.
But that YB10…….huummmmmmmmm
50k+ for a CBR????!?!?!? Has Fonzie jumped any of these over a shark? This hobby is officially over.
There’s definitely more, just had a stop at some point 😀

People said that about Vincent prices, and again when Sandcast CB750s brought big money at auctions too.
Sure $50k is objectively a large amount of money to some, and we all can debate what we personally would spend it on. But the fact is that these first year iconic sports bikes have a VERY wide appeal, and easy to live with and own today and represent meaningful memories to people in a position to buy them today. All this is going to drive prices up.
regarding the laverda, I would suggest skipping this one. Its a 750s, not an actual formula (you can tell by the frame not being polished). Someone put partial formula bodywork on it , although the air scoops built into the front fairing should be orange.
Also some parts are aftermarket such as the exhaust and the levers.
A nearly perfect formula went for 13k (+ fees so around 14) at WorldWide earlier in the year. You can see it at their site, https://worldwideauctioneers.com/car-search/ and enter either laverda, the 2021 Kannenberg auction or lot 252.
I would expect this normally to go for around 3500 USD but given prices these days and the number of drunks at auctions, this might go for 5-7k USD?
Don’t get me wrong, these are fun to own and certainly turn heads at bike gatherings but the advert is misleading.

Also, the mileage is wrong. The speedo is in KM not miles
Cool, another auction where rich ‘collectors’ can throw idiotic amounts of money at things and ruin the market for us mere mortals.
Martin G – thanks for the tip on the Laverda. I’ve just started looking at them and would have easily missed this!
Mecum is a huge dice roll and very risky business! Open hand bidding which means there’s NO MONEY behind employee bidding you up. Getting your bids bumped by the auction house with what they call chandelier bidding (allowed in their bylaws) is the norm so that means you can bid against yourself over and over again. More time and effort spent on MECUM owned bikes then sellers. They have the event in Las Vegas because it’s a “buyers beware” state and the less they tell you the less liable they are. That’s why you can’t look in gas tanks, the descriptions are vague and history is rarely listed. Want to gamble, go for it but I strongly suggest paying an outside inspector and when things go wrong…KNOW that mecum will not be there to help. Take it from a guy that spent $500,000 there in 2019 and what did they do…they banned me for life with a letter from their CEO for calling them out on their shortcomings. Sorry…just don’t want others to feel the same pain as I did and my many mates who went through similar situations. I don’t expect perfection but at least TRY to be honest and forthright. Stick with Cars Mecum…bike people don’t tolerate your unscrupulous tactics!
The $50k R/W/B 93 900rr’s on BaT is just two guy’s big egos trying to determine who has the biggest wallet. A zero mile R/W/B 93 900rr sold on Iconic a short time ago for $24k. I don;t think we will be seeing $50k 900rr’s in the near future. As a matter of fact, we will be seeing many more come up for sale as now everyone thinks their R/W/B 93 rr’s are worth $50k. They will be shocked to find out that they are really only worth high teens to low twentys.
Agree with NorCal joe 100%!!
