Seller
2001 Honda CBR1100XX/Blackbird…in outstanding condition. A “Needs Nothing”…older adult owned…”unmolested” example of this iconic/history setting motorcycle. All factory/OEM stock condition…with exception of a “Zero Gravity” smoke-tinted windscreen (slightly taller w/the “bubble” bend) and a tank pad/protector and tank-protector side knee pads that are color-matched (there’s also a magnetic/removable tank protector…that’s not a match for the Honda Red…which may show in some pictures). Just 20K original miles. The assorted pictures here are recent, showing the exact and current condition of the motorcycle. Has recently been NYS Inspected. The bike has always been stored inside and is extremely clean and rust/corrosion-free! Well above “average condition”! No Rust / No Corrosion / No Road-Rash / No Tip-Over or Garage Drop Damage. Under carriage is extremely clean…with little indication of road debris chips & nicks that one might typically see. CLEAN!!!
With the exception of a small ding/dent in the top left side of gas tank…between the gas cap and seat (shows in pics)…and a small chip on the left engine cover puck (sticking out of fairing lower)…remainder of the bike is in exceptional condition. Now…it is 22 years old w/20K miles so you could scour it and find “something”…but she’s damn nice no matter what!
Mechanically, with a low 20K miles (low for the year…and that massive motor)…this bike is perfect! Starts, runs and rides flawlessly! These ‘Birds are know for their power and longevity….having a very loyal and admiring fan base. The CBRXX is one of the most supremely powerful and smoothest/vibration-free motorcycles money can buy…especially if you are looking for a modern 1990s/2000s era “Superbike”!!! World Land-Speed Record Holder back in day…still more than powerful enough to satisfy anyone! These are great “Sport-Touring” motorcycles. And their comfort and glass-like smoothness add to their appeal. Finding one in the condition mine is in…is a BIG PLUS!
The bike has very good matching Michelin Pilot tires (not new but with a lot of miles left & in great shape). Battery has been replaced. I have recently done an oil & filter change…using Castrol 4T/Full Synthetic motorcycle oil and a HiFloFiltro oil filter (less than 100 miles on the change). All other fluids and normal maintenances have been done/addressed over regular periods.
Fuel-Injected/In-Line/4 Cylinder/164HP motor. Chain drive. Hydraulic Clutch & Brakes. Triple Disc Brakes. Truly a “SUPERBIKE”!
Asking $6200 for the bike. It is in superb condition…better than you’d expect and better than many I’ve seen. You might be able to find others for less money…but, IMO…$6200 is a fair price for such a “road-ready”…”needs nothing”…and “older adult-owned/unmolested” motorcycle! “NO DISAPPOINTMENTS”!
I am only selling this due to a storage situation which has recently forced me to also sell 2 other motorcycles from my small collection. I don’t need the money…I need the space! If not sold in the near future (before the snow starts flying here in South Central NYS)…I will seek another form of storage. I am a long-term motorcycle enthusiast/rider/collector (since 1969) and ONLY own/ride motorcycles that are in above average condition! This CBR11000XX is a fine example of that! Enough said!

Hmmm, after testing one of these a few months ago, I’m doubtful that stock suspension is going to do it. An example with all the best mods sold recently on BaT for less than this.
Not sure if that BAT example is an apples to apples comparison. Aftermarket mods, while generally increasing the performance of a bike, drastically hurt the value more than helping it. Most people looking for this era of bike are old geezers like me, wanting date coded original tires, stock mudflap and reflectors, and the same DOT 3 fluid in the reservoirs that was still in there when it arrived on the boat from Kumamoto. We generally just park, preserve, and look at them rather than ride them.
Always have a soft spot for these bikes. Not at all my style, but cool.
As a former road racer, always preferred more cornering than the go-fast-from-NY-to-LA kind of thing.
However, a good memory of two days some years ago riding with a colleague who had one of these.
He asked me to take him riding in the twisties near our place of work – my kind of ride home from the office.
I rode my RC51SP2, and he on his Blackbird. We kept it slow and gentle… but he white-knuckled it the whole way.
The next day, he showed me HIS kind of ride home.
We rode the freeway, weaving irresponsibly thru traffic at *ahem* slightly above the speed limit. Scariest ride I’ve ever had on two wheels, including any of the big race track get-offs I’ve had.
This bike is certainly built to stretch its legs. Has plenty of midrange, and a can pace itself for a blast across the Western US auite comfortably absolutely as fast as you might be willing to go.
Cool bikes, if you like that. If everyone liked the same thing, the world would be a dull place.
Glad these are out there.
Even if not my thing, they help make our sport fun, by being what they are.
Hope someone picks this up, and enjoys it as it was meant to be.
Funny that these are known for a short term top speed crown as the claim to fame.
I have only seen a few in the flesh. But what struck me was the build quality. You’ll never notice this in internet photos. But IRL the fasteners that hold things together have dimples in them, or other artistic touches and are works of precision art. And evocative of the SR71 namesake. At least for the conspicuously placed ones. Very simple but totally uncommon on other models and oems. Unless the owner replaced with non oem hardware of course. These are not parts bin stock and not used on other bikes, so oem replacements might be unobtainable. On a used bike you might not notice the detail if that jewelry is missing. So have a close look if you are at the Barber museum.
Maybe you’d not notice this detail level if your other bike is an NR750 or something…
@ LB – well said. Not every bike appeals to every rider, but nice to see the variety and we hope every bike finds the right owner.
@ Michael J – thanks for the level of detail in your comment/advise. Any prospective buyer would be happy to read this type of comment before making the final deal.
Ron, I respectfully disagree about the BaT comparison bike. These bikes aren’t really vintage enough to be on pedestals in man caves, and the stock setup, if not upgraded, is truly frightening for a bike of this power. The upgrades on the BaT bike were exactly what is needed to make one of these a runner in real life.
Wow, i never keyed in on the design of the brakes. There is a master cylinder connected to the left fork leg. There is a lot bolted to the fork. I hadn’t noticed until i zoomed in on the front wheel pic. The brake caliper moves and provides mechanical leverage on that lever attached to the mastercylinder plunger. I never gleaned that in
reports from over 2 decades on these bikes.
Vincent’s comment above about how the brakes didn’t work (well) was what caught me on the idea of the brakes. So much complexity in design. I wonder how much friction in all those linkages plays into managing/controlling that master cylinder. Thanks!
Michael, the braking system wasn’t the big problem, although it is complex. It was the stock suspension that was pretty awful, but that could have just been the example that I tried out.
To LB and others that say this bike doesn’t handle in stock form i don’t get where your coming from. I am 56 years old, am a collector and have been riding motorcycles from the age of eight. I have a Nicky edition RC51 which btw is signed by him an 07 CBR1000RR and none less than 4 blackbirds, one having under 2,000 miles all with stock suspension. To me the bird is totally planted in corners btw i am rarely on the freeway almost always on twisty backroads even on my 18 wing which is also surprisingly planted in corners and im talking scraping foot pegs. And yes the fit and finish of the bird is amazing , big fan of these bikes
