The seller admits up front that an “expert description is hard,” and honestly, we respect the honesty. Not everyone can write ad copy for a 20 year old superbike, that’s what we’re here for.
So let’s fill in a few blanks. This is a Nicky Hayden Edition RC51, built in 2004 to commemorate Hayden’s 2002 AMA Superbike title, the same year Honda’s V-twin was giving Ducati fits on track. Red, white, and silver livery, brushed aluminum frame and swingarm, and a race-style tach that still looks the part. This is the SP2 generation, updated with a taller windscreen, longer swingarm, and more power over the original SP1, changes Honda made at the request of its factory racers.
At 7,500 miles this one’s seen some road, but it’s far from tired. Recent comps have ranged from around $10,700 to $25,000 depending on mileage and condition, so where this one lands is anyone’s guess.
We’ve covered a Nicky Hayden edition before, a 3,047 mile example that was about as clean as they come. Worth a look if you want to see the other end of the mileage spectrum.
