So here’s a bike I haven’t seen before and considering how many race replica homologated bikes Ducati has in it’s history, I’m not surprised I don’t know them all. So I did a little looking around and apparently this bike has been out there before (read about the previous listing on DucatiNewsToday.com here). And the seller was asking quite a sum of money last time. There’s also some question of how accurate the sellers knowledge is of the bike.
From the seller-
1988 DUCATI 888 LUCCHINELLI FACTORY RACER (ENGINE #ZDM851W4*850210 FRAME #ZDM851S*850210*) 1 OF 20 MADE(AND IS NEW NOT RESTORED) BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY NEW ONE TO EXIST. I WAS TOLD THEY ONLY MADE 17 BUT IAN FALLONS BOOK THE DUCATI STORY SAYS THEY MADE 20 (SEE TEXT IN PHOTO). THESE FACTORY RACERS COULD HAVE WON THE WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP HAD THEY COMPETED IN ALL OF THE ROUNDS. THIS BIKE IS EXTREMELY RARE AND FOR THE COLLECTOR WHO WANTS RARE OBTANIUM IN HIS COLLECTION. THEY MADE APPROX 400 1974 DUCATI 750SS GREEN FRAMES AND THEY HAVE SOLD FOR 115K AT BONHAMS HALF MOON AUCTION. THEY MADE 20 OF THESE FACTORY RACERS. THIS DUCATI 888 FACTORY RACER IS WHAT STARTED IT ALL FOR DUCATI IN THE WORLD SUPERBIKE DOMINANCE. BIKE CAN BE SEEN AYTIME IN LAS VEGAS, NEVADA BY APPOINTMENT. BIKE IS FOR SALE LOCALLY, IF SOLD LOCALLY IT WILL CANCEL THIS AUCTION.THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY ADD.

So, there seems to be some question about the overall knowledge from the seller about the history of the bike. And certainly a previous listing of $75,000 also raises some questions of what the bike is worth. After all, that is a lot of cash. What doesn’t seem to be in dispute is whether the bike is legitimately what is advertised. So what we have here then is a truly rare sportbike. And with one mile on the clock, it may be one of a kind.
For me, the market on a bike like this is hard to pin down. For the right person, it may be the ultimate piece for a collection. And if the production is that limited, then opportunities will be rare. With the starting price of $20,000 the bar is already pretty high.
Regardless if you have the cash or don’t, you may want to take a look at this rare and beautiful bike. If so, check out this auction.
