Hot on the heels of Ian’s Bimota SB8R post here comes another fine SB8R. You might recognize from the background that this bike belongs to the Michigan collector, and was photographed in what must be the most recognizable building on RSBFS pages. Yes, this bike is being sold by JoeJo20 for his father, who is liquidating an amazing collection of rare and desirable sportbikes.
The Bimota SB8 series, as noted by Ian previously, is the Honda Civic of Bimotas. While any Bimota is rare, the SB8 is by far the most common of the breed. This is not to detract from just how cool this bike really is, but to point out that even rare bike brands have a best-selling model.
The R version of the SB8 adds more carbon fiber to an already impressively engineered package. This particular example as sports a pair of Moto Corse Ti cans, which must make the big Suzuki powerplant sound incredible. Want!
From the seller:
Up for auction is a 2000 Bimota SB8R. This is a very clean motorcycle that I am selling for my Dad who is selling his collection. The condition of the bike is fantastic and is basically brand new with only 4 miles. It has been properly stored and maintained since my dad bought it brand new. It comes with a service manual in binder and an extra key.
This particular seller has been caught out by over-pricing bikes in the past, and as the result not everything put up for auction sells – despite the exquisite condition and low miles of the bikes offered. This particular example is an unused SB8R, with only 4 miles on the clock; one would imagine those are limited to delivery and dealer prep only. I won’t get on my soapbox about these things being made to be ridden – I can only hope the lucky winner puts some miles on his new prize.
This auction is on now, and started at a very reasonable level: the opening bid was $5k, and at the time of this writing the bike was up to $7,655 with reserve not yet met. This is absurd money for a near new SB8R, and I would estimate that the reserve will stick around until we get to north of $11,500 or so. For the record, we have seen these go for as high as $17k. For more information and pictures, click the link and jump over to the auction. Good luck – and if you win it, don’t forget to ride it!

Hello I am curious why this bike for sale has the standard TLR instrument Panel and the one I found on the MCN website, shows it with a trick Bimota instrument panel?
The dash in the pic you linked is from the SB8K (the specific picture is from a Santamonica). The TLR instrument panel was on all SB8, SB8R and SB8RS.
Again! The worlds coolest garage!
Richie: thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Tim: Most Bimotas utilize the gauge package from the engine/transmission donor (notable exceptions being the Santa Monica, Tesi series and the vDue). In this case, use of the TL cluster maintains the Suzuki troubleshooting/diagnostic feature built into the electronics.
Mike,
Thanks for the clarification..
