Seller’s Notes
This is a 100% original and unmodified first generation, 1999 Yamaha R1, with only 591 original miles. It is as close to showroom condition as I think you’ll find out there.
I am a car and motorcycle collector and enthusiast, as well as a licensed dealer. This bike is currently sitting in my collection and is the nicest 90’s era sportbike I have ever owned, and possibly ever seen. This is a collection making motorcycle and there truly are not many of these left, let alone with such low mileage and in this condition. I am happy to work with you to ship this bike anywhere in the world. *If you are a New York State resident the bike will come NYS inspected and I will need to collect sales tax at time of sale*
Vehicle Details
Cosmetically this bike is near perfect. There are a couple EXTREMELY small imperfections, and a few of the miscellaneous bolts and brackets would benefit a touch of polishing to be made pristine again, but that is just what it would take to make the bike actually PERFECT. In its current condition it is likely one of the nicest examples left in existence.
Mechanically, the carbs were just removed, cleaned and rebuilt. The tires and battery are all new. The bike fires up immediately and runs like new. This is a collection worthy bike but is also 100% road ready if you choose to enjoy the insane performance that is the 1st gen R1.
It also comes with a brand new, still in the box, Yoshimura slip on muffler.
I have videos of the bike I can provide upon request.

We have seen a few of these first gen YZF R1’s on Rare over the years and this might be the lowest mile example yet. The seller is marketing this to collectors with the highest price we have seen yet.
In February of 2023, a 1999 YZF R1 sold on BaT for $10,000 with 3,600 miles. I posted a ’99 this past month that sold for $7,500 with 5,691 miles. The bike we are posting today only has 591 miles… miles and miles of value. This puts my head into a spin.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
I kind of wish it was an auction so we could see what happens.
Is this bike really worth14K+? Tough call, but wouldn’t be a shocker. Low mileage bikes command big bucks on iconic specimens these days. But this bike has been on ebay for long enough to get the attention needed and still hasn’t sold. If this were a ’98 R1, I think the asking price would be more than fair….but still should fetch at least $10 – $12K. Put it on BaT and the seller may get his price. I think buyers are more comfortable buying high tickets examples on BaT because the bikes get thoroughly scrutinized there. Flaws get pointed out quickly while concours condition bikes are praised and highly coveted by collectors.
Well….the seller took the bike to BaT and it sold today, 8/6, for $17,773
@dan We just saw that. Smart move.
