Howdy! My 1998 R1 is super clean and low vin. Adult owned and garage kept. I bought this bike from my friend on August 6,2019. He bought in 2017. It had 8500 miles when i bought it. Now up to about 13500 miles. This bike is almost perfect! Original paint! No scratches or dents. Never been dropped or slept outside since we owned it. This R1 classic is beautiful! Regular oil changes and service done by a professional shop. I had the carburetors rebuilt last month. I also have the factory exhaust that is in perfect condition. This bike will haul ass if you let it. I mostly ride it to the coffee shop now. I am a collector of bad ass retro race bikes. I take care of my toys. This bike is one of the cleanest year one examples out there. Very low vin# 917.
Looking through the RSBFS archives, Donn reported on a ’98 YZF-R back in August, 2022 stating, “Yamaha knocked its superbike rivals back on their heels with the R1, packing 149 hp into a light, tight package. Trying to keep the chassis compact, Yamaha positioned the transmission input and output shafts vertically, making room for a swingarm that could cope with superbike power. Five valves per cylinder took advantage of the well-developed EXUP exhaust valve, making for a progressive torque curve starting at just 5,000 rpm. The Deltabox II spars are folded alloy, along with a triangulated MonoCross rear. Even components are trimmed for the lighter, faster mission – 41.5 mm inverted forks and 298 mm semi-floating brakes.”
This example looks to be in excellent condition.
Good luck to the buyer and seller!
