We witnessed some amazing sales last year with pre-OW01 FZR750R’s last year. Today’s example has traveled a bit over 1300 miles and has some mild modifications that appear easy enough to return to stock. The seller’s buy-it-now seems to reflect this with an asking of $7500.

Here’s a chance to own one of Yamaha’s original superbikes.
I love bikes of this era, love them! But those wheels, ugh, that’s all I can see, ugh. It’s like a supermodel who has a big fat hairy mole on her face, can’t stop staring at the ugly mole!
I can see why you don’t like the looks of them Jason. Actually…those wheels and brakes are pretty trick and look like they may have come off an older race bike of the era. PM made two wheels back then (Street and Race) with the Race being thinner and lighter. They were used extensively by some of the top teams back then (Muzzy, Hammer, Valvoline, Etc…) The owner says he has all the stock pieces so you could replace everything to stock and sell the wheels and brakes (bring your cost down) and have a stock super low mile example. Kind of a poor mans OW01 (at about 1/4 the price) $7,500.00 or Best
slangbuster, No, put it next to your owo-1 so you have a comparison of the two. I think this bike is really cool. If I already didn’t have a 5 valve I’d buy the thing.
Maybe you guys are right in this case , but those Performance Machine wheels ( I think one more company also made them…perhaps Muzzy…. ? ) look great on a bike like say a CBX or a more naked/Streetfighter type bike . Then again I always liked the look of a polished frame on a Sportbike . the mid 90s ZXR Kawasakis looked insane with a polished swing-arm and frame . Ok boys….get out the tar and feathers ….I am ready ! LOL !
RC30… YOU SHOULD HAVE NEVER GONE THERE!!! Opening pandoras box like that… I agree the polished looks good, on a rider that is….. I wouldn’t want it on a collector or museum piece as I think it distracts from the true heritage of the bike…
K3 , agreed . One in the living room all OEM , the other one with polished everything blinding people on the road with the glare from the shiny bits ! LOL ! 🙂
slangbuster: thanks for schooling me on the wheels, though I still don’t like the looks. To me it looks like they came off a 90’s custom Harley.
RC30freak: I thought you were a kindred spirit, I’m so disappointed. Polished frames are for GSXRs with stretched swingarms, gold plated spoke wheels, and L.E.D. lights dancing all over it to the beat of some hip hoppity song blaring out it’s bodywork in custom molded speakers.
Ugh.
Hey Jason ,
I enjoy bantering with you ! Funny I had a sick idea for one of my VF1000Rs : It actually was to put speakers in the fairing infill and maybe an MP3 player instead of a bulky stereo tuner . It would be just an around town bike . Though instead of hip-hop it would play some rock n’ roll and maybe the occasional cheesy 80s tune ! Just one of my quirky ideas ! Possibly add some PM wheels into the mix ! Extended swing-arm is off the table though (because then you can’t do any wheelies ! ) LOL ! 🙂
Ha!
Yea, that’s a sick idea alright.
You could probably go to a bike night then and still be accepted by the stretch-swingers. I’ll be on the other side of the parking lot, you know, the side not wearing girl scout vests. lol
Hey Jason ,
Yeah but the fun is bringing a few boxes of Girl Scout cookies and sharing them with your friends @ bike nite whilst listening to cheezy music blaring from your speakers in your fairing . I will crank it up loud enough for you to be able to break dance to it over on the other side of the parking lot ! LOL !
Get a room, you two!
Alright, if you bring samoas, but I prefer to pop and lock
There’s room enough for 3 Mike , I’m not possessive ! Just bring some Girl Scout cookies .
