1983 Honda CB1100R D for sale on ebay

I don’t know a lot about these bikes but the seller states the more common B and C versions had “only 100 hp” but the provided D series specifications indicates this one to have 120 hp.

Here is what else the seller has to say about this rare sportbike:

Extremely Rare Classic Collectable…..Only 1500 full-powered CB1100R D series were built and none were imported into the U.S. The B and C series were only 100 hp.

The RD is painted in pearlescent red, white and blue. The engine covers are painted in gloss black, the gold covers received a much deeper color than the earlier models. The engine shares many parts with the CB1100F bike. The rear swing arm is made of rectangular steel painted silver.

“The ‘R’ bikes were produced in limited quantities from 1981 to 1983 to compete in factory endurance racing in Europe.  They have been touted as “the ultimate peak of development for the dohc, air-cooled, twin shock, across-the-frame four.” and dominated their racing class in 81, 82 & 83. To this day, they are considered comparable to many “modern” sport bikes. Only a few lucky people in the United States will be privileged to own a CB1100R-D as they were never officially made available for the U.S. market.”

Honda was very successful with these bikes in the famous Isle of Man TT races and they were piloted by legendary riders such as Wayne Gardner, “Rocket” Ron Haslam and Joey Dunlop.

Additionally…

THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A CLEAN ORIGINAL EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE RAREST HONDAS BUILT FOR RACE HOMOLAGATION INCLUDING THE RC30 AND RC45. IF YOU COLLECT HONDAS THEN THIS IS IT AS THERE IS BARELY A HANDFUL HERE IN THE USA!!!

WHAT A RARE AND RIDEABLE CLASSIC…..PLUS YOU CAN STILL GET PARTS FROM EUROPE OR THE UK FOR THEM AND CB1100F PARTS WILL WORK FOR THE NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR STUFF SINCE THEY ARE THEY INTERCHANGE.

If I was putting together a collection of Hondas, I would have to include this one as well.

  • Now that is a rare find! I need to start digging a bit deeper….

  • Kind of high mileage, but at least somebody has enjoyed it. “Ride ’em, don’t hide ’em”.

  • I bought this bike on ebay. It’s in original condition and all there in unmolested condition except for the aftermarket exhaust. I’ve shipped it to Australisia. PS. It’s in kms not miles, so its @ 18,500 miles. Nothing to worry about it at all. Shall I restore it ?

  • I have the RC, in current restoration. Surprisingly you can still get lots of parts from Honda (excluding body work). From memory 1000 1981 RB’, 1500 1982 RC’, and 1500 1983 RD’ were produced. We recieved 500 of each here in Australia, not sure about the other countries, though i know Germany, France, England, and South Africa also had them imported. Here we had a race called the “Castrol 6 hour” indurance race which the 1100RB and RC dominated. As for the RD, this was a “prettied up” version of the previous models which dominted the race scene back in the eighties. Anyone who has ridden / owned one of these things, will confirm the great ‘neutral’ feel to the bike as a whole, when fast cornering is in progress. They stop pretty good to, and are quite powerfull. Mine now has the wiseco 1123cc kit, with 38mm Keihin FCR’, im yet to fire it up (on completion of resto). I changed the rear wheel to a VF750, which is identical to the original, though a larger rear tyre is now fitted (170 spitfire), which just misses the swingarm by around 3mm. Love the bike to death, it will coming with me to my buriel, lol. The other bike i have which is as much fun to ride would be my RG500 – the rest just keep my spanner fingers dialed in – peace to all. John (Sydney Australia).

  • ……and the elusive NOS RD in a crate in Australia or is it jus folklore?

  • Hi I live in S.A Cape Town

    And the Price?

  • Hi Paddy, could be selling my RC – currnetly being restored, about 80% done.
    Can send pics etc.

  • Just noticed South Africa, i was thinking South Australia, lol. Sorry, my mistake.

  • Hello John

Let me know when your RC comes on the market

  • Sure Mike no probs. One thing for sure, there’ll be a few parts left over, buying all stuff oem from CMSNL, pretty expensive but good parts which fit straight on. Will say though, this resto will take a while, just cruising with it, but making sure everything is right. My email – cb1100rc@hotmail.com

  • With havin so much written content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright
infringement? My website has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it appears a
lot of it is popping it up all over the web without
my authorization. Do you know any solutions
to help prevent content from being stolen? I’d truly appreciate it.
