SELLER
HELLO LADIES AND GENTLEMAN,
I HAVE BEEN RIDING SINCE 1968,AND CURRENTLY OWN 6 BIKES.
SADLY MY RED DEVIL IS NOW UP FOR SALE,AND I WOULD LIKE IT TO GO TO A FELLOW RIDER / COLLECTOR
ITS ALL ORIGINAL, AND SADLY IT DOES HAVE SOME MINOR SCRATCHES, BUT NO DENTS AT ALL.
I WANTED ONE OF THESE LITTLE KAW’S SINE I FIRST SEEN ON IN 1983.
I BOUGHT IT FROM A GUY IN CONNECTICUT BACK IN 2018. THE GUY WAS A PRETTY COOL GUY, BUT DIDN’T SEEM TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT BIKES. BUT AFTER WAITING 38 YEARS, I KNEW THIS WAS THE ONE. I ALWAYS WANTED TO KEEP MY BEST BIKES IN MY HOUSE, SO THAT’S WHERE IT SAT. SADLY I WONDERED WHY I WAS GETTING HEADACHES IN THE MORNING, SO SHE WAS MOVED INTO THE GARAGE UNDER A COVER.
OVER THE PAST 6 YEARS THAT I OWNED HER, ALL I DID WAS GIVE HER A NEW BATTERY, 4 NGK PLUGS, A NEW FRONT TIRE,AND A NEW REAR MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER. IN 1981, KAW ONLY USED ONE PARTICULAR BRAKE CYLINDER (TOKIKO) FOR THIS MODEL AND I WAS “VERY” LUCKY TO FIND IT IN JAPAN.
AFTER 3 YEARS OF OWNING HER THE ELECTRIC STARTER FINALLY FAILED. I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I STAY AWAY FROM ELECTRICAL WORK BUT THANKS TO MY MAIN MAN ERNIE.S., A FACTORY TRAINED HONDA MAN, THE BUTTON WAS REPLACED (NOT WITH A FACTORY BUTTON) REWIRED, AND FIXED IN 3 DAYS.
THANKS AGAIN ERNIE 🙂
HOW DOES SHE RUN MIKE????
IN THE SUMMER YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO CHOKE THE BIKE. THATS BECAUSE SHE HAS A FACTORY STOCK AIR BOX, AND EXHAUST ALONG WITH DRAINING THE CARBURETOR FLOAT BOWLS, AND GAS TANK
IS SHE FAST MIKE???
FOR A 550? YES.
HAVE YOU TAKEN HER TO TOP SPEED??
OF COURSE. ITS A MACHINE,AND MACHINES ARE MADE TO RUN. SO I DO RUN HER, AND SHE LOVES THAT!!! THATS WHY SHE RUNS SO GOOD
DO YOU POWER SHIFT HER AND TEAR UP THE CLUTCH???
NO! ONLY IDIOTS DO THAT. BUT I DID REPLACE THE CLUTCH WITH ITS FRICTION PLATE AND STEEL PLATES BECAUSE LAST YEAR SHE SLIPPED FOR THE FIRST TIME
SO THAT ABOUT IT FOLKS, FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS,AND DON’T WORRY IF YOU THINK ITS A STUPID QUESTION. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A STUPID QUESTION.
RSBFS
Forty three years old and still bringing smiles on peoples’ faces.
Back in 2017 Mike reviewed one that received great reviews in the comments section. Luis said, “Have you seen these on a track? The twin shock variant B model hit the sweet spot in terms of wheelbase and frame geometry . They carve up much larger and powerful bikes because of their agility. Not sure about the single shock version but doubt if it is worse. Great bang for bucks proving you don’t need a big bore.”
Slangbuster commented, “These are great little bikes and I thoroughly enjoyed mine back in the day and they were incredibly versatile. As a matter of fact, Keith Code used em for his school. They weren’t slow, but needed more horsepower which was easily remedied with a few mods. I think they still look great, even today.”
Mike sounds like an honest seller that has loved this bike. He’s open to questions, so ask away!

What a refreshing and friendly description! Best of luck Mike!
@jess – I agree. It put a smile on my face, even with the ALL CAPS, lol, which normally drives me crazy.
