The RZ350 holds a special place in the history of RSBFS. It was the last of the 50-state factory two strokes, featuring advanced technology like liquid cooling, a computer-controlled adjustable exhaust port (YPVS), and catalytic converters. Despite these impressive features, its presence in the US was short-lived, especially in California. While the RZ350 was produced in decent numbers worldwide (including the RD350LC variants sent to Canada), finding one in the US today remains relatively difficult. The ones that are found often tend to be modified, worn-out, and pricey. However, the bike we’ve discovered today is a rare gem – a clean, unmodified example with reasonable mileage. But be prepared to open your wallet wide, as the bidding is intense with just a few days remaining. The seller has provided ample detail about this special bike, so let’s hear the story from their perspective.
from the seller:
1985 Yamaha RZ 350 yellow and black Kenny Roberts. 13,000 miles Toomey pipes and intake. I have owned this motorcycle for over 15 years. always garage kept. Original paint. Very nice condition. Comes with original owners, manual, tool kit and original dealer brochure. Clear title in my name located central Oklahoma. Cash or direct wire transfer to my bank. Only payment methods excepted. Everything works on the motorcycle as it should. Sold as is no warranty. Any questions please message me. Very minor cracking on the tank decal. They are only original once. I do have the original exhaust pipes. Good luck with the bidding!
Currently, the bike has bid to $6,200, but it hasn’t met the reserve yet. Other less pristine and heavily modified examples have been offered at much higher prices. It’s expected that the bidding will likely spike near the end, depending on the reserve set by the seller. As parts for these bikes become increasingly scarce, owning a well-preserved one becomes even more desirable. This particular RZ350 ticks all the boxes for those seeking a showroom-quality specimen. The auction may be ending soon, but there’s still plenty of excitement to witness even if you’re not an active bidder. Good luck to all!
My understanding is the 2T engine was also used for decades in their Banshee 4-wheeler. That is a good thing for parts availability to keep these running. However the motor cycle version of this engine was more special than the Banshee because it had the ypvs.
I often get the itch to buy one. It is the pinnacle of the RD parellel twin line. But when we are talking this level of cost, i start looking for an Aprilia RS250.
