2004 Suzuki GSX-600F Katana With Less Than 200 Miles

This seven year old Katana has seen less than 200 miles!

Bike:  2004 Suzuki GSX-600F Katana

Miles:  <200mi

Price:  $5,000 USD

Location:  Vancouver, Washington

Now, this isn’t a very collectible bike (To mainstream collectors…) but it has been hardly used in the last seven years.  The seller states that this bike has been in storage for years, features some after-market parts such as a Yoshimura exhaust system, and that offers will be considered.  The last bit of that sentence is the most important, the asking price of $5,000 makes this Katana the most likely candidate for the “Most expensive 2004 Katana in the U.S.” competition.  KBB retail (For what it’s worth) for this bike is $3,015.  Granted, KBB doesn’t really apply to the majority–any–of the bike featured on this site, including this one, but a $2k premium is all the money for a bike with less than 200 miles.  This bike probably isn’t the only forgotten Katana with low miles, so keep that in mind if you’re interested.  The bike does have some after-market parts and stickers–for some reason–which doesn’t inflate the value at all, but if your significant other wants a bike and you know that they probably won’t ride it anyway, this bike might be perfect for you if you can get it for a good price.  See the bike on Craigslist here.

1991 Honda VFR750F-M With 3,950 Original Miles Just Outside Of Seattle, Washington

A low mileage ’91 VFR750F in Washington state!

Bike:  1991 Honda VFR750F-M (RC36)

Location:  Bothell, Washington

Mileage:  3,950mi

Price:  $3,395USD

Honda marketing labeled the VFR as a “sportbike for all seasons” and “an entire garage full in one bike”.  These VFR’s were designed to be just as usable as a canyon carver, sport-tourer, and daily rider.  The bike retained race derived components such as the 16-valve V-4, Pro-Arm single sided swing-arm, twin piston brakes and a dual spar aluminum perimeter frame.

I find these earlier VFR’s–third and fourth generation–to be the best looking of the standard production VFR line.  The seller doesn’t state much other than that this bike is all original.  From the minuscule Craigslist photos, it looks to be in very good condition as I would expect for a bike of this mileage.  This bike does look to have bronze wheels.  While I’ve only seen these red examples with white wheels, this could be from the factory–anyone care to comment?  The price is higher than most for a second-gen’ VFR but considering mileage and condition, it isn’t too out of line.

2003 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird With 113 Original Miles

This is an iconic CBR1100XX with 113 original miles!  Located in Smithtown, New York is a, one owner, 2003 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird in showroom new condition.  The seller states that for personal reasons, and having two other bikes, he was unable to use this bike and that is why it has accumulated such low miles.  No mention of maintenance history is given but, it is a Honda and only seven years old so a fluid flush and once over should cover it.  The Blackbird remained, relatively, unchanged throughout it’s production life as  a testament that the original design was enough to carry it through to the end regardless of what the competition had to throw at it.  This was the the fastest, production, motorcycle when released in 1996 but, it’s crown was usurped by Suzuki in 1999.  These are larger and heavier bikes–267kg wet–but, I’m sure the additional weight is comforting when wind speeds approaching 200mph.  This bike will always be my preference over the other super-supersports from the late 90’s as it started out as the fastest production bike and aged gradually into a more mundane super-tourer while skipping the airbrushed skulls, spiked fairing bolts, and neon all together.  If you’d like a museum quality example of a Super Blackbird, see this bike on eBay .

1990 BMW K1 With 4,496 Original Miles

This bike was BMW’s original attempt to fight Japan for a share of the large displacement sportbike market.  Located in Willoughby, Ohio is a 1990 BMW K1 with 4,496 original miles.  Believe it or not but, when this bike was released BMW fans found it outrageous and not inline with the traditionalist look of prior BMWs.  Whatever your feelings about the color and bodywork, this bike was a piece of aerodynamic work with the coefficient of drag coming out at 0.38.  BMW chose to make the K1 super-slippery because of the German requirement for all motorcycles to have a cap of 100bph.  BMW got their high speed with the fairing but still lagged behind in acceleration tests due to the lack of horsepower.  Don’t be fooled, this is still a BMW at heart; It features an articulated Paralever single sided swingarm with shaft drive, Marzocchi conventional front forks, four piston Brembo calipers in the front, 16-valve inline four, and optional ABS–fitted as standard to U.S. bound models.  This bike weighs in at 569lbs wet and the U.S. spec. bikes are actually reported to only have 95bhp due to emissions equipment.  While the ’80’s were full-fairing street bikes got their mass introduction, this bike seems to be the super sports bike epitome of ’80’s excess and flash.  BMW wanted a bike with all the bells and whistles and unfortunately, that came with a weight penalty; combine that with low hp numbers and you have something that is less than spectacular in motion.  However, this bike will appeal to you if you think of it more as a modern VFR: Not the most mundane tourer or best handler but, a civilized sports bike.  The seller only states that this bike is from BMW collection, has been meticulously maintained, and only has 4,496mi.  The asking price is $11,000 with the original MSRP being $13,000.  The only other example I can remember seeing recently was one with ~20k miles and an asking price of $8k; reinforcing that this bike isn’t outrageously priced.  If you’d like to have a BMW super sports bike that isn’t a S1000RR, see this bike on Craigslist here.
