It has been proven in the past that a current CA title on an import two stroke is worth cash; buyers are willing to pay a stiff premium in the land of CARB/EPA/DOT/DMV and other alphabet soup wanna-be government regulatory agencies. This particular RG500 Gamma is located in California, but alas there is no title to go with the sunny, So-Cal residency.
Like most older bikes imported from Japan, this RG is showing the signs of outdoor living. There is a good deal of surface rust on many of the parts. The fairing has numerous cracks, scratches and signs of damage. The tires – don’t even get me started. And speaking of starting, better hope for low compression by the looks of that kick start lever! The good news: This is a Suzuki RG500 Gamma. The bad news: everything else about it. If you are looking for that next big restoration project, this might just be perfect. If you are looking for perfect, you might want to look elsewhere.
From the seller:
1985 Suzuki RG500 located in Santa Ana, California. Bike has 11,722 KM = 7033 Miles on it. Engine ran o k when we purchased the bike about 1 year ago. The carbs to be cleaned now. The upper and lower fairings are cracked. The wheels on the bike are Campagnolo Magnesium. Wheels are period correct for this bike and are the same wheels used on the racers. Bike also has a Daytona steering damper on it. We don’t have a title for this bike. Bike is sold with a bill of sale only. Ask questions and look at the pictures carefully before you bid. Bike is sold as is, no returns.
I don’t know if it is because we are at the end of Summer and the riding season nearly over for many states or if it is just a phase of the moon (insert your own superstition here) – but we have been seeing some seriously high opening asks on eBay lately. This RG is no exception – despite the condition, the opening bid for this bike is set at $9,995. That is way high, and likely the reason there have been no bidders yet. Check out all of the details here, and then let us know your thoughts. Good Luck!

The opening bid figure is an example of why SWE should be outlawed. (Smoking While EBaying)
Oh no, Mr Man! This bike is super awesome, and I’m sure that it will be no problem to get a title. I mean, the owner had this bike for a year and probably never even tried! This is a steal at $10k.
Yeah right. This guy should go eff himself.
I bet it sells, not a good deal though. His last RG500 sold for $7500 and it was seized! I bought a “like new” RG500 in Canada for $6500 2 years ago, clear title, new stock condition, still have it! I bought a new (5km) one for 8K in the early 90’s.
Do you live in Canada? If not, how much of a hassle was it to get that bike back down here?
seized as in stolen? or seized as in the engine was frozen?
Was seized, meaning the engine is stuck frozen, the seller has a good rep, just high prices! No problem at all to take across canadian border, make sure you the canadian title BOS etc, , being older than 25 years it is exempt from all DOT and EPA reg’s, try bringing a newer bike across the border and they might impound it!
Doesn’t it have to be street legal to have “street cred”?
Another greedy fool who thinks anything that says “RG500” must well be worth a ton of money. This thing is being flipped as he found it and he expects to quadruple his investment. You could’nt even give it a wash? Good parts bike for $2K
Scary example. You would easily and quickly have more money into restoring it than it’s worth, even at current Gamma values. Run.
Looks like an “RMD Motors” bike from Japan. Too bad as they have some interesting bikes. Must be tough times.
I don’t even think its a good parts bike. Its crap.
No one bid on it and the seller did a relist. This bike is worth 5K to me, is too rough and too far away for me to consider.
What’s up, everything is going sound here and ofcourse every one
is sharing information, that’s actually fine, keep up writing.
