Less Than Subtle: 2003 BMW Boxer Cup Race Bike
Update 12.2.2011: Back on eBay. Buy-it-now has been updated to $10.9k compared to $14.5k when listed in early October. Links updated. -dc
If a car pulls out in front of you while riding this thing they need their license yanked. Esthetics aside, I’m not at all sure what we have here. I’ll get to that in a minute. This will be another of my posts where I’d love to hear from you guys to fill in the voids.
The bike is listed as a BMW built race bike for the Boxer Cup race series. My first question would be was it built by the factory or a BMW dealer. It sounds like the bike was built by Daytona BMW but I see pictures of a bike from San Jose BMW in stars and stripes paint as well. Next, what is with the plate? I did a little snooping around the net and I read in a forum the owner has the bike titled but rides it with no street equipment. Obviously a man who loves to live dangerously.
Here is where I need some help (keep the wise cracks to yourself). What might this race prepped bike have over the limited replicas that BMW produced? I could not find much on what the series allowed to be done to the bikes. I did find a note that said BMW supplied race kits to the teams. The seller does note that when he bought the bike BMW would not include the race chip. That stinks!
I would assume, being a race bike, the suspension has seen some attention.
Some pictures to make you want to buy fireworks:
Oh the price. Even if your life long goal is to own a “real” BMW race bike you might flinch at the price: $14,500. The good news is the seller is open to offers. The consensus among guys posting on the net was the bike is severely over priced.
Now, lets say you a true patriot and love that paint but want something with say; lights and turn signals. Well, I’m here to hook you up.
This is a 2005 stars and stripes Boxer Series Replica from Daytona BMW. The seller says it is one of two built. The entry fee for this street version? The seller has a BIN of $6,750 to go along with the auction.
Take your pick:

I would like to know if this is the acual bike the Parriott raced of if it was his back up or just a replica. Both ways this is a cool and rare bike. I think the price if it includes the history is very fair. Brian was amazing on these BMW’s! Keep up the good work
Joe,
Can you give more info on the price? What little tricks might it have that a replica might not? Or is it mostly the history that would make it worth more to the right person?
I would have to know first if this is in actuality Brian’s race bike. If it is, then I am sure there are quite a few tricks that have been done to the bike, but finding them out is like pulling teeth. The factories always keep there cards very close to their chests when it comes to race sorcery. If in fact it is his race bike, then it has some relevance as far as values goes. It would all depend on the paper trail that the bike needs to back it up, the more the better. The history of a successful racers bike is always very valuable and desirable. If you collect BMW’s then this would, in my opinion, make for a corner stone in the collection. I hope this helps… As for the other bike, I am not sure that it is just some dramatic paint scheme that was thought up to move a slow selling bike over bike week.
I owned the sister race bike to this bike. My bike was raced by ason perez and was on pole in the south african round. To my knowledge this is brians bike. My perez bike had the BMW NA chip and laser exhaust. Suspension was tweeked as well. Other than that these machines were not that much diifferent than other cup bikes. reportedly Udo Geitl had a hand in the builds along with san jose bmw. I sold my perex bike for 8k about two years ago. I hope this helps.
Don,
Great info. I think that would help any perspective buyer.
Riding a boxercup is so choice, if you have the means I highly recommend picking one up.
Thanks for the comment Ferris
The price seems kinda steep IMO as well. That said two years ago, paying $8k for the sister bike seems like a deal. There’s lots of classes in CCS racing for a bike like this, I hope it ends up there.
Does anyone know what happened with this bike?
I’d like to buy it!
