Kind of a Gen 2 of the re-vitalized SuperSport line, the early 1990’s were special years for Ducati’s 900SS. With the re-designed frame, adjustable Showa suspension, and improved Brembo brakes, the 900SS had the handling to accompany the booming 904cc desmodue.
1992 Ducati 900SS for sale on eBay
Hiding under the full ‘glass fairing, the air-cooled v-twin was nicely carburetted by Mikuni, and had a wide power band. The white trellis frame held the engine from the top, with Showa dampers at either end. Brembo 320mm disks were in front with a single 245mm disk behind. The quite sculptural tank and seat fairing has been updated with a painted pillion cover.
With under 1,000 miles, this 900SS is well beyond excellent, and has been improved with some fine components. The exhaust system from Termignoni incorporates a pair of crossover tubes in a diabolical arrangement. Front brake calipers are updated to the Brembo GT, and the monoshock is now an Öhlins. From the eBay auction:
Very rare 1992 Ducati 900 Supersport in like-new condition. Thousands of dollars invested in now obsolete top shelf parts – complete 50mm Termignoni spaghetti exhaust, Ohlins rear shock and steering damper, Brembo GP billet calipers, Brembo billet clutch and forged master cylinder, GiaCoMoto rear sets, Ducati carbon fiber rear fender, vented clutch cover, 39mm Keihin Flatside carbs, brand new Pirelli tires, full service including all fluids, lines and belts replaced in October 2015.
Spotless and thoughtfully updated, this could be a Supersport for the ages. Up-to-date expendables make the grand buy-it-now easier to rationalize, and tonight the auction has 92 watchers. Reviewed as serious-handling with room for an actual adult, it boasted a riding position relaxed enough for a full day’s ride…

Very nice, especially with the white frame
Maybe i am just getting older but the 1990’s Ducati’s seem to be more attractive than the modern day bikes. These seem more sculpted where the modern day bikes seem more like cad drawings.
I’ve seen this bike in person at Desmoto in SF – it’s immaculate. GL to the seller on the sale.
Almost 9,000 ! that seems high to me…am I wrong?
Worth every penny. The 90’s Ducati’s are the BEST and look better every year
Love the white frames 900’s and truly rare with these miles. One of the best sounding Duc’s made with the two valve motors and will put a big smile on your face every time you ride it. Great street bike. It’s probably worth the asking price, if you want a good one with incredibly low miles.
Aesthetically my favorite belt-drive SS. Brilliant performers – maybe Ducati’s best road bike ever for bombing back roads. They were even fairly reliable, or at least fairly easy to repair when they weren’t.
I put 1,000 miles on my ’92 SS the first weekend I got it. All-day comfort is relative – long rides for me were like being slowly cleaved in half from the bottom up with the narrow edge of a 2×4. Even so, I put 30,000+ miles on mine in just a few years.
900’s around this year had various recalls for head stud breakage & swingarm cracking. I’d want to be sure those were done. The factory tried all sorts of various clutch combos to eliminate the chattering, lurching, squawking, & burning, but none of them worked, or at least for very long. Starter sprags were a common problem, alternators were weak, & regulators could be consumable items.
Is $9,000 too much? Without the upgrades, probably not; but those upgrades alone cost several thousand. I’d be seriously tempted if I was in the market. The real question for this particular example is: Do you enjoy it by riding it & or just displaying it?
Not a big Ducatisti myself, but damn that’s a gorgeous bike. Defines “timeless beauty”. and Agree that these older Ducatis look sculpted rather than just designed on a computer.
Yes, it’s high, but for the money you’re getting basically a brand new and upgraded ’92 SS. The only further mod I’d make is the same thing I did to my own SS/SP, and that’s to substitute the solo tail from an SL, since there’s no passenger footrests anyway. Beautiful bike!
I just don’t understand those bikes. 25 years old and less than 900 miles? I see those, and I can’t help but think, what a waste. I have an 899, and it’s really hard not to ride whenever I can find an opportunity. It’ll probably be worth nothing when I’m finally done with it, but it’s all the better for it, I think.
I understand that you don’t understand. Spend some time with one and experience what it is…you’ll understand 🙂
Slangbuster, not the bike itself. I love old Ducatis, especially 900ss. I just don’t understand how could anyone let it sit and not ride. It just makes me rather sad.
I’ve thought about it. The price is very much to high. I do love this bike ( for the record I have a 92 851 and a 94 888 SPO ltd )
Featured listing bike 748 R for 8,500
and the 996S for 8,500
I don’t feel it’s in the same field. For the same money I would take either of the others 748/996 R and S bikes instead of the dare I say “plain” 900 SS
I would like to see how it compares to the two here at home ….
With that said it’s gone….
Rarity and exclusivity… that’s what it’s all about. Worth every penny to its new owner. Sold to a loving home in Southern California
I agree and I know It’s hard to understand. They are meant to ride and enjoy. But I must say, I love fing these low mile jewels so I can buy em and ride em.
