Always a favorite here on RSBFS, here is 1998 NSR 250 in good but not pristine condition. The location is California which likely means this is an import from Japan but the seller indicates it is de-restricted model and that the bike has a US title..
1988 Honda NSR 250R on ebay
For a lot of current riders two stroke racers were before their time, with the last readily available model for US riders being the Aprilia 250 of the early 2000’s. Surviving models are quite common in Japan but not so much in the USA, which means that they can be imported from Japan in rather rough condition. This particular NSR250R isn’t perfect, with some minor paint shedding on the fairing mount bracket, a clouded windscreen and some paint issues on the riders right side. But given that this bike is closing in on 30 years old it looks like a very solid example.
Mileage is listed at about 7500 miles and the seller indicates some recent service but service history isn’t as complete as I would like. Tire age would need to be considered as well but overall condition looks to be really good.
Is this 1988 NSR worth the $5,500 asking price? I truly don’t know: the last couple of these we posted had went for between 6000 and 7000 usd but my personal sportbike knowledge started after these came out and from what I have read getting parts for these can be quite problematic. Also the lack of service history on this one is a bit concerning but the seller does indicate fresh fluids and that it is de-restricted …I think this one will be of interest to someone who could go take a look at it closeup.

getting the original cylinders could be a problem, however they do make aftermarket cylinders for this model that are excellent from what ive heard. if the bike runs good and it looks to be in decent shape, 5500 for a cali titled 250 street two smoker seems to be a great deal
well its not just the cylinders that can be tough to find, the crank itself can become mission impossible to obtain. honda does not make the crank for this bike anymore, but they do make aftermarket cranks for this bike which are said to be bulletproof
And proof that it smokes is coming out of the silencer!
Screaming good deal @ 5.5 k $… I have ridden this model and there are no flies on it at all… A tad nutless below the typical revband but portwork/carbs/chambers will unborethe hell out of one. Buy it!
At $5500 I could not pass this one up.
Even it turns out to be a basket case, parted out its worth more than $5500.
sold…were you the buyer? just curious
I am now awaiting communication from the seller to arrange shipping. Hopefully I didn’t buy a lemon 🙂
Looks like seller backed out of the deal and cancelled the order after I made payment.
That certainly is a shame, RC. I bought my MC21 from this seller, I believe, and I was quite happy with the transaction. Hopefully things get resolved to your satisfaction.
I will have a much better 92 mc21 for sale within the next 6 months that’s had a rebuilt motor and chassis not absolutely a minter but far far from a lemon street titled not done with it yet. English oem honda service manual for it too. It is not orginal cause it will have oem styled China fairing for about 800 more than that one.
Seller indicates bike suffered seizure during farewell ride. My guess it was already running lean in “derestricted form” and the weather was probably a bit cooler than usual and *boom* slightly lean became grenade-lean.
Bike is supposedly being rebuilt now. I am still looking for a good clean MC18 – hopefully another one comes along 🙂
rare that a left coast titled 2t was actually put up for sale at a sane price
